I am a laptop repair tech and my role is to fix customer's laptops. This includes manufacture's warranties to accidental damage. After fixing the unit, we make sure that the unit is fit for purpose and update the unit when possible. After fixing the unit, we make sure it is clean then sending it off.
I have learnt a lot from being in the repair center. my computing skills have risen and i'm able to diag units a lot better. We have also started to do soldering in the college classes which will help us with clr jobs at work. we have also started to learn more maths, this should help with the engineering side of the job.
The college side of the apprenticeship is quite enjoyable. The lecturer is quite friendly and has taught us loads of stuff. The only thing is some of the assignments are quite long and take some time to get correct. The repairing side of the job can be quite stressful. sometimes you need to get a job out as soon as you get it but things can get worse when you least expect it.
The programme is well structured. We have a set timetable of 4 on, 4 off, 4 on then 2 off. We also have college every other Monday. There are sometimes in the job where there are not enough units to repair so we do college work unit the stock is delivered.
We receive a lot support from dixon's. Our line manager is super helpful and will always try and get the things we need or help with personal issues. We also have two supervises that help us when we have questions about the job and give us tips when fixing laptops.
Leigh, our college tutor, is super helpful during and outside of college. If we are struggling on something, he will always come over and help us solve the issue. He would even help us when we have problems with the assignments. He would point us towards the right answer without giving it away.
Without being able to do the clr side of our job at the minute, I dont feel like it is helping to do my job any better. I've learnt how to use a multimeter so i can check if power is going through the unit but other then that, it hasnt helped much at the moment.
There is a group called spirit newark on the work site that does after work activities to improve your skills: especially maths and english. Last month, there was a party in Lincoln for reaching deadlines during the peak. The company will hold parties and stuff when something good happens like hitting targets.
Yes
The company is very vast with a large amount of job roles spread through out the country. These included factory workers to office admin. The company looks after its staff by giving bonuses, when targets are met, and holding different events when something is achieved . its a very good company to work for.
Try your hardest when you get your job and you will be rewarded. The company has lots of benefits for its workers likes cinema and gym discounts as well as discounts within the stores. If you dont get the job role you wanted, you could always join the company and work your way towards the role you want
