  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently working in Digital and Engineering Services in the Data and Analytics team during my apprenticeship, I am in change management, risk management, data governance and controls (resilience - business continuity plans). I complete a monthly analysis of the change statistics, I conduct call cascades, I deal with the holiday resource planner as an administrator, I conduct change records reviews and daily checks to insure compliance and no breach of the policies and many other tasks.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills, I have learnt how to create Kanban boards and Scrum Boards in Jira and Kanban Boards in Service Now, I have learnt about the Networking Principles and system architecture so now I understand and can troubleshoot on cabling and networking issues. I have expanded my Excel skills, my interpersonal communication skills and improve my task prioritisation skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am loving it! I am learning all sorts of areas and roles within technology which gives me a better idea of the role that I'd like to perform once I finish the apprenticeship, the program is great and simple to follow and getting the qualification at the end of it is definitely a great goal to achieve.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Sadly it is not very well organised, there are a lot of communication gaps and it all feels a bit experimental. We were put on the job for 4 months and only effectively started the program after that, meaning that we didn't really understand a lot of the tasks that we were doing.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive quite a lot of support from my employer, namely from my manager and the team I am currently placed in, my manager allows my time to complete my apprenticeship work and also a lot of opportunities for me to further my knowledged in technology and even outside the apprenticeship program, i am encouraged to undertake extra activities and volunteering to improve my personal branding as well.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have regular meetings with my training provider's assessor, we have 6 week reviews and 13 week reviews, we have face-to-face training every other month and clearly defined tasks to complete and evidence to submit and any questions we have we can just email our assessor and they will answer any query very promptly.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification that I am obtaining from my training provider is essential to the role that I perform in the company, I am learning a broad range of tasks, a lot of them that are not part of my daily role but are part of the whole process and it makes everything more clear as it connects the dots between what is happening before the process reaches my department and what follows in the chain of events.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many extra-curricular activities that we can get involved with and several networks that we can support and be allies and many professional networking events and free training courses provided in the employers' facilities that anyone can register for and attend. For example, there is a Code Club for colleagues and one for schools, charity and volunteering opportunities, fundraisers, etc...
