My daily tasks include: taking measurements from drawings, producing spreadsheets for costs, finding a cost saving where possible, liaising with clients and receiving quotes to use on our projects, dealing with subcontractors, paying subcontractors, adding orders to our online system, tracking progress on site and claiming rebates from our jobs.
I have learnt how to take a measurement from a drawing, developed my onsite skills-learning about new build construction and refurbishment. I have gained my Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment and currently finishing my 1st year in the Level 4 HNC. I have gained more confidence.
I enjoy working with my mentor because I get the 1-to-1 training that I need in order to progress and do my job. The people within my team and work place are very friendly and always make sure I am happy in my work. They offer great support when needed
It could be a little bit more organised with workload but in terms of training, support and studying- I believe the company is very well organised in that manner. Always making sure I am performing to a set standard and never dropping below expectations. The team and managers are also well organised
I have received a lot of support from my employer when it comes to personal issues that could possibly affect my progress and studying. The HR team is great, always ready to help and willing to offer support and guidance when requested. They try their best to stay right by me.
A lot of support is received from my employer when it comes to working towards my qualifications. They are always on the ball and they are always making me do my best and not fall below expectations. They are very supportive and do care about me succeeding in my work
My qualification gives me overall knowledge on construction such as: the processes, the different methods, the different materials that could be used, the different foundations, the legal procedures, the history of construction, the building regulations, the approved documents, etc. I can use this knowledge when at work as it allows me to identify the differences.
There is always something going off in the company, this being great bake-offs, Easter bake competitions, charity events where people give items to kids charities and schools, voluntary run events- The Great Northern Run where people from the company apply and get sponsored by others in the company to raise money for Engie's chosen charity, etc
Yes
It's a good place to work in terms of gaining valuable experience and knowledge in construction. I started here when I was 16 and I have learnt so much about the construction industry. The progression routes are limitless and everyone is really helpful and willing to give their help and support when needed.
Doing work experience and gaining a good work from my work experience employers is what helped me secure my job when I applied at 16. The other candidates were great but because I had great feedback, it made me stand out in the crowd. The company wants the best people so looking smart, working hard to progress and having good work ethic is what makes you the best.
