Day to day life at Syngenta as a Mechanical Engineer includes breakdowns and routine maintenance. Break downs which have no prior warning are jobs that include replacing and fixing damaged equipment and components whereas routine maintenance is a way of preventing future breakdowns and there is a new list of these each month.
For the first 6 months of my apprenticeship I have been on a full time block during this block I have carried out 3 level 2 units to build up my competency skills for when I returned to work. these units where a basic understanding of electrical principles, Mechanical maintenance and hand fitting. on returning to work I have settled into the working environment seeing new and different jobs each day.
both during my time spent at college and work are enjoyable. At college being able to understand the maths and physics behind the jobs I carry out is a great interest of mine and helps to develop my understanding. at work the tasks that I carry out are interesting to me as I enjoy working on tools, I also enjoy the job satisfaction of knowing the work you have carried out either fixes or improves the process.
from the start of my apprenticeship during the 3 week induction period all the way to my final fourth year as an apprentice has been planned and explained to me in detail. each year has been thoroughly planned out by my line manager Nikita so that I my apprenticeship runs smoothly and I achieve all the required qualifications for my job as an engineering technician.
from college work to mechanical activities support is always available In order to progress and develop my technical understanding. on site in the learning and development building I can carry out any outstanding college work and during mechanical activity I will always be with a trained individual who can answer any questions I have
Throughout my time as an apprentice I have support with achieving my qualifications to a high standard. One of the main facilities that is provided for apprentices is the L&D building where I can spend time during and after work to carry out college assignments and NVQ work. We are also offered extra tuition where needed.
I feel that the skills I am learning at college and through the competency work guide I am developing my skill's that will massively benefit my job when out of my time. this skill I learn will be able to be changed in different job specific situations that are new to me.
This month I am taking part in a charity football match playing for Syngenta there are many opportunities like this that are offered to me during my time as both and apprentice and a fully competent employee. next year I will go on an out wood bounds trip where i9 van develop my team building exercises more.
Yes
Because it is great company that offers a wide range of apprenticeships that are open to all types of people. during my time as an apprentice I am offered help and support throughout all aspects. at Syngenta there are jobs on the site for 50 years where I know that I am making a change for the better in crop protection hat feeds the world.
For others that are applying for Syngenta you will need to be able fit in with different environments and be able to adapt to change on a regular basis because as an apprentice you will spend time on different plants. I would advise that you carry out research on the company and the job you are applying for.
