EY smart futures intake Review

The work experience I conducted with EY was absolutely amazing I couldn’t have asked for a better place to do it. EY worked alongside the Ministry of Justice and the whole programme equipped me with a larger perspective of what legal career looked like. Some of the tasks I was assigned to was come up with creative solutions and also give guidance on how both parties can do better.

I learned various skills from communication to team leadership and management. I fortunate enough to gain a qualification from this work experience and it was the CMI so chartered management Institute who gave me the qualification of level 2 in team management and leadership. From this qualification I can now leader a team much more better and effectively.

I throughly enjoyed my work experience I was thrilled but also shocked that I got the unprecedented opportunity to carry out such work experience with a prestigious company but also with one of the major leading government departments. The experience was second to none I met some very nice people as well as expanding and growing my network further in the legal sector.

The programme leaders did a really good job of making sure everything ran smoothly from making sure lunch was ready on time to making sure the taxis were booked when we had any external visits. I could tell the programme was organised well from the first day when the induction was held because everyone was introduced to each other and this broke the barrier of me being nervous so all in all it was great.

From the start I could tell that EY really do care about their employees. I was only a work experience student for three weeks and it felt like I was a full time employee who had been there for many years. The staff were ever so helpful and were always happy and available to assist in any query I had.

Before participating in this work experience I already new what I want to do and that is hopefully to become a corporate barrister. I’ve always had the idea of working in the legal sector in my mind from a very early age however EY and the ministry of justice did enhance this aspiration further because I got to meet many people with legal professions and they gave me tips of how to become the ideal candidate as well as given me an insight to their job.

On top of all the perks and incentives which were given to me during this three week programme I was also paid on hourly basis of £5.30 and his continued till the end week. My travel was covered during this programme through the salary earned. Lunch was also provided.

Yes there was, on more than a few occasions I got to meet many senior people from Solcitors to paralegal to occasionally to some barristers. On the final day the graduation day this was the day in which I got to network with many people. I got the chance to speak to the director of Her majesty’s courts and tribunals Service who was Graeme goldsmith I noted down his LinkedIn profile and we exchanged emails.

Because this experience is second to none if you want to get your feet on any career ladder EY is the place to go to as many skills are enhanced and also found. The staff are amazing and it’s just truly a good piece of experience to get under your belt. What is there to lose.

Be yourself and don’t get to complacent nothing worth having comes easy so give 110% when applying plus during the programme. Take the opportunity as it comes because If you don’t you will regret this opportunity. This will help you to the next stage of your life and this is a career all these small incremental steps will all pay of.
