I directly run the intermidiates plants on our site, i swap between two of the four plants when they need me, my main job ids to be signed off as compitent at all aspects of the job. I'm also involved in the improvment of the site as a whole, one of the extra jobs that the apprentices have been set is to redo all the lables on the lines.
Yes, all the skills i have learned are directly tied to the job i am doing so my radio and communication skills have increased. Also throught this company i have been trained to drive a forklift truck and to use high pressure water guns. This company has invested alot of money into its apprentices ensuring they have enought knowlege to works safely.
I really enjoy thisprogram because it is completely different to anything else anyone else my age is doing. Everyday we are being given more responcibilty and improving our teamworking skills. They are constently looking for ways to improve the programme for later apprentices and they get us involved in the process.
Very good, because we work on a chemical site it never stops so there are 5 shifts that cycle to ensure 24 hour running. We are assigned one mentor on each shift that we go to in a moring to assk what to do. We also get an apprentice mentor who can help us with the NVQ and college side of the apprenticship.
Everything i need is provided, we hav personal PPE that has our name on it and if we loose or need replacements its ordered for us. We also have apprentice/intern intern lunches where we can all come together and tak about how everything is going. We can also request training be directly emailing the training department.
We have loads of places we can go for help, we have a review meeting with a representive form our college just to ensure we are keeping upwith our work. also as i have said before we have apprentice mentors who can help with the NVQ units and revision for the exams that they have previously taken.
The NVQ units that i do directly apply to the job that i am doing, they are really good becuase they get me to ask questions about why things are done in a certain way. For example all our units have a question about safety, this gets me thinking about the regulations and standards i work to.
I am part of the companys continuous improvement team. this ream makes note about things that can be done to improve the site, this is good as it means apprentices can make a difference. There is also a sports and social club that offers discounted day out and events that people from work can go to.
Yes
Its a large international company with a good reputation, Im doing things that i would never have though i would do (driving a forklift, operating a plant, using high pressurer water guns). Every day brings something new and the other workers here are fun, they make the day go quickly.
Be honest in your application because your interview they will ask you questions about it. Be yourself, they dont expect you to know everything but they do want to see that you are willing to adapt. Have A couple of practice interviews before to practice your answers and imporove your confidence.
