My role within the GPS department is very diverse. My responsibilities include tasks which must be completed routinely each week, such as updating employee data on our systems and informing external vendors of changes made. Yet I also work on the ticketing system, where I monitor all requests sent into my department as they come, and finding timely solutions for them. These are usually involving company benefits, letter requests and background checks.
I have learnt new skills in regards to working with the company's technology (the terminal). I have also developed my people skills due to having many interactions. The bloomberg university has also allowed me to be independent with my learning and i have taught myself in areas such as financial markets, which my day-today role does not cover.
I love the Bloomberg culture and I hope to join a different team in the future. I enjoy working here but have experienced some difficulties. thankfully with support networks such as the mentoring program and having points of contact for guidance, I have still maintained my love for the company and hope to work elsewhere internally.
My program was quite disorganized when I began, I did not know what was expected of me, however this improved as the program has continued. There was a great sense of ambiguity when I began and this lasted several months, however, I am mostly clear and confident in completing the duration of my course.
I feel that I totally lacked support for a long while and this made my experience rather challenging. However, once having reached out to others external from my team, the response was very positive and i was very impressed. The mentoring program has also been a great help for my growth here. I know who to go to as and when I need to.
I receive a lot of support from my training provider. I can contact my coaches whenever I require. In addition I meet regularly with my coach to ensure that I am on track with my work load . We have basic resources to help guide us with what is required to achieve the best results.
I feel that our training providers are attentive. However, they are very unhelpful in regards to improvement and do not set clear expectations or feedback. I have also found it difficult to ask questions during lessons and have had issues when asking for help in class, this can at times be very frustrating.
We have the opportunity to get involved in charity work through our philanthropies department. I have also has the chance to be involved in some networking events and I thoroughly enjoy these- I do wish there were more! Teams do also try to go out together however I have often been excluded by my team- this is not the same for other apprentices, my case appears to be exceptional.
Yes
It truly is a great company to work for, with its flexibility to learn so much and great culture. I feel that my experience was a little unfortunate but it does not taint my view of the experience I know my fellow apprentices are having- I would recommend Bloomberg to anyone.
I would say be very open and do not have any other expectations other than, expect to work hard. Working at Bloomberg opens doors to endless opportunities and I believe that you will learn so much. Be prepared for a lot of character growth and just always give your best.
