On a daily basis I work alongside various different people at varying levels of seniority on real life client facing projects. We look at helping clients solve some complex tax related issues on a global scale. I also study towards my ACA qualification whilst working. The exams are spread across a three year period.
I have learned a whole host of new skills. I have learned a plethora of new technical skills which have been learned through both on the job learning and also through exams. I have also learned a new array of soft skills from working within a very corporate and professional environment.
I am thoroughly enjoying my new programme. It is incredibly challenging and has enabled me to put new skills into practice. I also enjoy being given this level of responsibility so early on. Similarly, I have seemingly been busy from day one and have not been left without work at any point.
The programme is very well structured. There is also a great amount of extra help available for when questions arise. Similarly, being able to put new skills into practice in real life situations makes the exam revision somewhere easier. We are given set structures and paths/goals to work towards.
We receive a great deal from Deloitte. They are always happy to answer any questions have provided designated people to proactively assist with the exam side of the programme. On the odd occasion whereby we have issues with the training provider, Deloitte have stepped in to help resolve the situations.
The training provider has been hit and miss. We have been to college once so far whereby the tutor was fantastic. However, the other exams so far have all been self study. The materials are sometimes a bit lacking with typos and the online content has had numerous mistakes in it.
I think the qualification is very useful in my day to day job. I also think it is very useful to be working alongside so many others and actually putting some of the exam material into practice whilst studying. Actually seeing some of these theories in practice makes it more easily understandable.
Yes, there are many extra activities to get involved in. Deloitte have an array of societies and social events that we are encouraged to join and attend. Similarly, there are numerous training programmes constantly on the go so that we can learn additional skills informally whether it be lunchtime sessions or webinars.
Yes
Because I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience so far and have met some fantastic people. Similarly, I feel like I am really progressing within a rewarding and challenging environment. Deloitte has a globally well renowned name and it is a place/employer that encourages its employees to grow and further themselves.
Be prepared to work hard and try to take on board all of the knowledge that is shared with you. Make the most of all of the opportunities available. Always strive to go the extra mile and don’t just settle for a bare minimum approach. Hard work is noticed within the organisation.
