apprentice Review

i am currently in my final year placement and working within a project team. this involves assisting the project team leads with projects that they are rolling out. this can include gather information, collecting data, trialing pieces of equipment or materials, creating project charters and also gathering quotes. this team gives me a chance to develop many skills which could be used in my future.

I have worked in a small team before in a similar sort of situation. But whilst being in this team I have developed my communication skills and also been able to adapt them depending on who I am reaching out to, that being instructors, operatives, team leads, group lead, EHS and so on.

this programme allowed me to work on a rotation whilst in the factory. this meant that I could work in all off the different segments, learn all of the process and stages that the blade must go through to be manufactured and also be able to work with many different shifts and teams.

As we were the first apprentices to be taken on in Hull there was still work to be done, during the time at college there was work put in place and deadlines given. the rotation was worked correctly but I believe that the communication between the managers and the shop floor TLs could have been better. but the final placement worked out well also.

When asked, I did receive support that I needed and was also advised on the correct people to speak to depending on the situation. again it was just the communication from the shop floor to the office floor that was not good as some team leads weren't aware of what I was supposed to be doing/ what I could do.

whilst at college I received a lot of support when I required it, this included assistance on essays and projects. when moving to the factory the level of support decreased as the assessor is only able to attend once a month and if this does not fall well with my schedule, e.g other meetings/personal appointments that have already been booked, then i would miss the meeting. It is also difficult to get ahold of him if I need hi at a certain time.

the qualification is currently based in the segment which I am working, this means that the research I do and information that I gather helps me understand the process of the segment more in detail. I am able to speak to the TL/instructors and operatives when needed and am always able to gain information when required.

there are different sports teams that some operatives are involved with and [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] also provides free gym memberships to the operatives and other activities such as obstacle courses and such. most of the activities include promoting health or the business. there are also workshops and events that different members of the factory can be involved with.

there are many different stages, steps and segments that can be chosen from. this gives the variety of what I am wanting to develop and what information I am wanting to collect as it is always available. there are also more options of working up towards a different role if wanted.

Prove that you will be a good asset to the business, you will add value to the segment and the blade, you will be a team player, this is key as everyone works in teams whether they are big or small. Make sure that shifts and shift pattern would suit you as this is an issue that rises quite often.
