On a day to day basis, we will react to jobs across the airport if something was to go wrong. Usually it is on an air bridge or in the baggage system. We also do planned maintenance on different assets to make sure the assets are kept running through the year
Since I have started my apprenticeship I have gained skills In the mechanical side and also the electrical side. I have learnt how to fault find whether it be on a mechanical or electrical basis. I have learnt how to maintain equipment and also how to install on the electrical part of the apprenticeship.
Since the start of my apprenticeship I have gained skills in all aspects with yet a lot to learn. But I enjoy coming to work. I enjoy going to the airport more than college as it gives a full insight in to what my job will entail when I am there full time.
My programmed is well orgainised and structured as we know what work needs to be done and when for. All the practical work is being at college in the first year then it is theory based for one day a week from then. We will then be in work for four days a week for the second, third and fourth year of our apprenticeship.
I receive a lot of support from my employer. We have monthly meetings on progress. This is to make sure we are completing work on time and behaving in the correct manner when in college. We go out on jobs with colleagues at work and they also support us while in work.
I receive a lot of support from my training provider. Although most of the work in the first year is practical they have given different advice on how to work safely and efficiently while making a good piece of work. The theory side has also been supported this year and advice was given to us.
I feel that the qualification through my training provider has given me and the other apprentices a good insight into the engineering world and is a good start. It has give us the basic training and some complex training into the job. We will be in work full time from July and will progress from there.
Since the start of my apprenticeship I have identified there are different extra curricular events activities I can get involved. Work actually set up an event for us to go to in Salford quays to the northern powerhouse event which talked about apprenticeship in the north and how good apprenticeships are.
Yes
There are many different opportunities that people can go for within MAG that you wouldn’t even think off. It is a great place to work with different schemes and benefits going on and has a high number of people who stay at MAG for a long service. It also has a lot of good people working for them.
I would tell others applying to have a good strong CV and a good cover letter sorted before applying for the job. Be professional in the interview process and also ask loads of questions which will by answered by departments of the role you are applying for. This gives you a better understanding of the role you have applied for.
