The role covers the training and support to work towards a assistant relationship manager role in the Commercial Banking Team. Undertaking day to day front link banking activities so serve customer. You are placed in the ARM team to support them in their role whilst studying towards 2 banking qualifications.
Whilst working in the bank I have developed invaluable skills that will aid my career, these include a grounding in banking, stronger interpersonal skills and a strong knowledge of how the bank generates income outside of its standard personal offerings. Whilst studying I have also increased my theoretical knowledge of the banking world
The programme has many enjoyable elements, the work has an enjoyable challenge, the team environment helps to strive be a better worker. The Exeter office also has a strong social element of meals, events and sporting activities which help to build a strong team inside and outside of the office.
The programme has a seamless application and interview process jsut as a normal member of staff would have. Everything provided by the bank was easy to use and well laid out. The only issue surrounds BPP, they give us limited information on the application and study material turned up late. The staff in the office now have a good structure for work to be passed to me and delegated accordingly depending on my knowledge
RBS have been supportive in giving me all the information I need to complete my apprenticeship. I have a dedicated Line Manager who directly looks after me and helps manage choices around who I support. I also have a dedicated Mentor Assistant Relationship Manager in the role i'm working towards to help improve my knowledge. The bank have also provide a lot of training programmes
BBP provide a good level of information towards completing our qualifications but the way they information in layed out could be improved. BPP work at an arms length so sometimes contact is hard but if you are self sufficient you can normally get all the information you need to complete your study
I feel that some parts of the qualification could be closer linked to the role, but I imagine it is hard to create a qualification that suits every banking role in the country. Study has helped me create a basic understanding of banking, but most of it has been put into practice of explored further in day to day work.
Extra curricular activities are more present in the larger offices such as Bristol where they have more people in the bank to put on these events. In Exeter we have private networking events separate to the bank we can attend, the office also gets involved in team sport events such as walking or darts/skittles nights
Yes
RBS offers a strong programme to it's apprentices, which the change to learn and develop in one of the banks brand under the RBS Umbrella. Once you have completed your apprenticeship the bank allows you to then apply for a job at your skill level giving you a step in a full time professional role.
My main advice for anyone looking to join an RBS apprenticeships would be to focus your attention to one of the larger hubs such as Bristol or Birmingham as they have the most opportunity moving forward. Also I would recommend to ask as many questions to as many managers as possible as you may be able to find someone who will help you through your apprenticeship into a role.
