Monitor plant operations and processes and provide manual input where necessary. Day to day jobs involves maintaining vessels, taking samples, cleaning filters and doing checks and working with the delta v operating system. Attend college in Huddersfield and cover a wide range of units which help build towards my qualification.
I have learnt to perform well individually and as a team whilst developing my communicational skills. My general knowledge of chemistry and the process we do has also progressed. I have also learnt to become more organised throughout my apprenticeship through nvq and college. I have also become more confident.
I enjoyed helping out with the open day as i was interested in finding out who else was interested in my job and what they wanted to know from me and my experiences at Solenis. I enjoy the networking lunches as it allows me to bond with other apprentices and learn about their roles.
My apprenticeship program is well organised as I always know when I have college and when my exams are. I also know when my college assessor is coming into work to do my next NVQ meeting as it is all on my online calendar. I meet up regularly for development days where i develop my behavioral skills.
I receive a lot of support from my manager and mentors. I can always ask them for help if I am struggling with work or NVQ. I can also rely on my teacher at college if i have any queries about any topics or units that we are currently going through. My mentors on each of my shifts on plant are very supportive.
Whilst working towards my qualification, I can speak to my tutor and my NVQ assessor about any burning questions that I have regarding college or work. They can also arrange extra meetings with me if I am falling behind or if I am struggling with a certain unit. College also has good facilities which we use regularly.
I like the fact that my role is more of a practical qualification as I feel like learn best in a more hands on scenario. I feel like learning from others and past experiences is the best way for me to learn. I love the fact that college helps me complete all of my exams in order to build up the full qualification at the end with my final end point assessment.
My department has been taking part in a football event for a number of years now and they have a team which plays regularly. They also run yearly events to the horse races which is a good experience to talk to co workers and a great day out in general.
Yes
Because it is a great place to work a with great career prospects. It also has great benefits which include health care and a good college qualification. The facilities at work and at college are also at a very high standard and provide all of the necessary equipment needed in order for other apprentices to gain experience.
Research extensively into the company and look at the background of the site and the products and chemicals it produces. I also advise coming along to the open day as it would allow the visitor to talk to other apprentices and look into their experiences and how they are finding the job.
