Role is as a maintenance technician apprentice, I undertake training based in the classroom and in the workshop to get a good base level of skill prior to going back to my place of employment. I have daily interactions with instructors, management and other apprentices which will become colleagues when fully qualified.
Yes, currently gaining a BTEC and NVQ level 3. Developing hand skills that can be used in a range of jobs within and outwith EDF. Working towards an ILM qualification. We complete a range of IMTs and BTECs while in the training programme. Later on we focus on achieving our NQV level 3.
The programme has met my expectations. I have enjoyed being away from home in a safe but more freeing environment. It has been very good to have been working and living with people in my year based across the country so that if in the future I need to move my place of work I know a number of people at every site which will help the transition.
Very well organised with a clear timetable and meetings with instructors every 12 weeks. Instructors have the final timetable and are happy to show you the months plan or what is occurring on a certain date to allow you to prepare for the class to the best of your ability.
A lot of support from instructors, management and co-ordinators. When faced with a problem while on the training programme there are a number of people who can assist. This involves people based at the place of training and those who can be contacted by email or phone. If the person you go to for guidance cannot help they know who can help and put you in contact with them.
A lot of support from instructors. At the start of the year we are given a tutor who is our point of contact for any issues relating to training. All of the staff are approachable and happy to help even if you are not in their class or tutor group.
I have put theory learnt into practical applications. All of the theory and practicals that are carried out have some connection to work we will be using later on in our career. The links to our future jobs is always made which helps us understand how our training is preparing us for our career.
Number of social events that we can get involved in. Gym available on base with a swimming pool, there is a guy here who is willing to reach out to local sport teams if there is a sport that you want to get involved in. Events such as Ascot, toughmudder etc.
Yes
Good company to work for, a lot of support during training. Good training programme with instructors with experience in the things they are teaching you. This helps relate theory learnt into real life applications. Meet a lot of different people and make lasting working relationships, which will benefit us later on in our careers.
Put yourself out there and make the most of all opportunities available to you. Do research in to the industry including future developments. Get in contact with people currently working in the company to get a better idea of the training programme and what the job is like day to day.
