My overall role as a trainee is doing the year end accounts for clients. I daily review clients bookkeeping systems and supporting documents. I also anaylse data so that I can import information into casware. I do this for alot of different clients such as businesses that are part of a group.
I have learnt alot of different skills while doing my apprenticship. Aswell as going to college and learning alot for my professional studies, on the job I have learnt alot about how business' run. I've also learnt alot of communication skills as I have to talk to other people in different departments aswell as different levels to me.
I enjoy my programme to a great extent. . I love working at BDO as part of a large team in outsourcing as I learn alot just from doing different year end accounts for different clients and why/ how we do things for certain clients. I especially learn alot as my team are very willing to help.
My programme is very well structured. I know how long my apprenticship is for and my manager and I have monthly catch up so that I can address any problems or anything I want to progress on. I also have a quaterly call with my BPP coach who makes sure I'm up to date on everything.
I receive alot of support. My manager especially makes sure to have monthly catch ups with me to make sure i'm on task with my BPP work such as reflective statements and how I'm doing revision wise. My whole team are supportive as they will always be willing to help me and teach me things i don't know.
My training provider is very supportive. At college my tutuor gave me her email so that if I ever got stuck at home on something I could just email her for help. I also get quaterly phone calls from my BPP coach to catch up and see how everythings going, aswell as email reminders and messages.
I feel as a trainee that my qualifications are helping me alot. I understand why I should do things a certain way alot better now and I feel it is helping me produce higher quality work. As I do year end accounts regulary the qualification is helping me alot with how to appproach certain tasks.
There is alot of skills days and social events at BDO. We always work towards working as a team, for example one a month as a team we do a team building activity. When I first started we had a welcome dinner to meet everyone, so I feel BDO is very social.
Yes
Because it's a great company to work in. Everyone acts as a team and are all there to help eachother progress. We're also very socialable and have alot of social events to interact together with different people and develop better communication skills. The company as a whole is very supportive and will push you through your studies.
Make sure to practice before you do the video interview. Also, be prepared that you are willing to work hard to progress into your career and are willing to put the hours in. Make sure you have done research on the company and the role to understand what the role entails.
