Currently on site completing my training and portfolio in order to become a competent technician. I am the extra man going out onto the turbine carrying out the yearly service including servicing and replacing the components, lubricating systems and general maintenance of the turbine itself. I am also going to different sites within my area to gain experience on different types and models if the turbines.
I have definitely be learning and developing existing skills. As I had no background within any sort of maintenance previously, everything I am currently doing on site is new to me and learning many different skills along the way. This is helped by being out with experienced technicians who are able to show me how to complete the different tasks required.
I am really enjoying the programme currently. Having spent the last year and a half based in Newcastle with theory work, it’s good to get out onto site and get hands on and build my confidence while in the work environment. Having no previous experience I have found the programme very interesting and enjoyable to take on.
The structure of the has worked well in my opinion. Studying the theory side of the job in college before going out to site has helped build my confidence to go out and carry out the role now that I am doing. There is plenty of time for my to complete my portfolios over the next two years to get to my objective to be a qualified technician.
I receive plenty of support from my employers. I have been plac d on many different training courses that have helped me understand the basic role of the job and the key health and safety factors that need to be clearly understood when working. Any issues Or queries that I have I can always find out the information needed from my employer.
Lots of support is offered from my employer to make sure that we are able to complete the qualifications I am working towards. This is from the amount of training and information that I have been provided with to the amount of time I have to complete the qualification and gain required experience.
It helps perform the role very well. Without completing the training that has been provided and the qualification itself, the role that I need to carry out would be difficult. The qualification started off basic to gives us a good understanding and the hands on experience has just help me build in my confidence.
There’s lots of different extra-curricular activities to get involved with. A few so the apprentices are keen to help out with the race for life this year that is being held down in Cardiff. We have also taken part in social activities with the apprentices as an ice breaker at the start of the apprenticeship which helped us ease into the qualification to know each other which really settled everyone into living away from home.
Yes
It have really enjoyed my time so far working for the company and think that it is a great opportunity to build a career that is for life. It gives you the opportunity to learn and developing skills that puts you in a great position for the future to have a successful career within the company.
Make sure that you are confident when you are going through the application process and that you do your reasearch into the jibe and what the role is all about. Having a general understand about the role and how the turbine works will give you a great chance of being successful in the application as well as the role itself.
