three days a week i spend in the work place working alongside other employees carrying out day to day task as well as being involved in project based tasks which includes problem solving and also networking with others across the site. 2 days a week i spend at college working on my foundation degree.
I have improved my networking skills significantly during my time being here which has helped me to meet new people. These people then show me new things and train me with new skills which i require for use around plant. I have also developed my pre existing skill of using online software such as excel.
I honestly believe that the program is a great opportunity filled with beneficial life skills and training. With the responsibility of your future opened up to you to make the most of the chances you are given. However, there are times when things do not feel all that organised and comunication isn't always as clear as would be liked.
For the most part, the apprenticeship program is well organised with placement sorting and any onsite activity. However, there isn't as much organisation within the enducational training provider where there is an okay level of contact but information can be given to you at a late date close to when the issue needs to be sorted.
My employer gives me a great level of support in achieveing what i set out to do, with regular guidence about various different tasks. Other employees also ensure that you are getting the best opportunity and always have timefor you and any issues you may have. Also suport you on a personal level.
They provide meetings every few months to talk about how everything is going and just ask general questions about how you are finding things. The educational provider also arranges these style meetings but are also in more contact in general as we see them when we go to college on those two days.
The qualification I am completeing helps me greatly to perform my job better as it gives me a greater knowledge of engineering as a whole as well as improve my engineering language. My qualification will also help me move towards becoming a chartered engineer which will show more over that I am capable.
There are various different extra ciriculat activities which includes the on site race team which goes to official race events on weekends and gets apprentices involved in fixing and maintaining the race cars. there are also football teams around onsite as well as careers event which we are able to support.
Yes
It is a great place to work for, with many company benefits and decent pay for the age range. you also are getting paid to complete educational stages which cost others thousands and leaves them with long term debts. This way I am able to get the training I need to do what I want to do in life.
Go for it, if you are remotely intereseted in engineering and production then this is a great start to your career. be prepared for interviews and ensure your CV is looking great and really portraying you in the best light. Keep trying to be involved in extra ciricular activities and maybe try applying for work experience over summer.
