Maintenance Technician Review

I am currently in my first year studying for a BTEC qualification every monday. I spend the rest of my time in the workshop training for practical skills and a mechatronics NVQ qualification. Practical skills involve hand fittting, MMA welding, milling, lathes, PLCs, electronics and mechanical skills. Assignments must be completed throughout the course in order to achieve the BTEC standard.

Yes. I have learnt a majority of new skills, both practical and theory. Skills I learnt during my A-Levels were improved upon. I have also improved my people and communication skills throughout my apprenticeship so far by giving presentations and meeting many new people. I have implemented my existing skills I learnt in my A-Levels and GCSE's.

I do thoroughly enjoy my programme as I am working with people who are like minded and have similar interests. The assessors are friendly and approachable, giving helpful advice to prepare us for our assessments. Other students are also friendly and give advice when help is needed during the course.

I would say that the apprenticeship is very well structured with clear routine and discipline. The structure of the week maintains a set structure, giving a continuous routine. The BTEC course is also very well structured giving plenty of time to complete assignments and good support being in place for work to be changed and improved.

I recieve plenty of support from my employer both through BMW and BMET college. A wellbeing and mental health helpline is made available to students. Support is also given for BTEC assignments. If I do not understand a topic, teachers and assessors are approachable and easy to talk to. Reviews are also completed throughout the year in order to outline our progress.

I recieve detailed feedback on all work I complete throughout the year including theory and practical assessments. We are also given support and feedback from our quarter year reviews in order to progress ourselves and improve our work. We are given thorough support from our assessors from booklets and verbal instructions.

I feel that the practical skills learnt during the programme will help me to complete the role more thouroughly when I am completing work in the plant. The theoretical skills learned in the workshop can also be applied to work onwards from the apprenticeship in the plant. The qualification fits well with roles i will have to carry out during the job.

Extra projects include building a carnival car for the Oxford parade which allows people to demontsrate their creative side away from engineering. The mountain challenge also allows employees to raise money for charity and keep fit. A gym is also available on the premises for all employees to use. Recruitment events are also carried out throughout the year for new apprentices.

BMW is a very well known organisation with many avenues to pursue once the apprenticeship has been completed. BMW also provides a car scheme and competitive pension throughout the job. There is a friendly open atmposphere and provides you with a good foundation for future work wither within or out of BMW.

Take the online tests very seriously and proof read your CV thoroughly. This will ensure that you have a good chance of getting through to the interview stage. School reports are also read, so make sure you know your qualifications well. Show a keen intrest in BMW group during interview.
