one day a week is allocated for the BTEC qualification. we spend the day learning the theory of engineering subjects like maths, mechanical principles and eltrical principles. The rest of the week is spent in the workshop learning practical skills to help us in our role in the future. The skills are split into different rotations like electonics, machining and hand fitting.
I have futhered my theory knowledge by repeating some units from the other engineering course i completed and completed additional units that i hadnt before. I have learnt many new skills as well as imrpoving some exsisting in the workshop. for example, i have learnt how to weld as well as solder, whilst improving hand fitting skills and machining skills i had some prior knowledge of.
i very much enjoy this programme because it is challenging and intresting which gives you something to work towards. the teaching is generally well structured and there is oppurtunities to complete side project to show off some of the knowledge and skills you have learnt. the other apprentices and tutors are nice and make the programme enjoyable.
the programme is generally well structured beacuse the learning provided is more is aadequate for the BTEC assignments that we are given to complete. also the workshop rotations are structured well because rotations allow us enough time to learn and improve skills, as well as complete the assessments. additional tasks are provided if you completed the rotations with time remianing.
the employer provides us with support in BTEC and workshop by giving us feedback on all assignments and assessments that we complete. they go through the feedback with us, which helps to explain to us exactly what they mean. they also complete reviews with us to find out how we are finding the course as well telling us what progress we have made.
they complete performance reviews that ask us for our opinion on how the course is going. these reviews also provide us with the employers view on how we are doing. we are always given feedback with our assessments and assignments that allow us to understand any probems we have and what we have done well.
the theory we complete in our qualification is very important and helpful for the role we are training for. the theory side is often utilised in the practical training we complete and helps us to complete this training at a higher standard. for example, we often use the maths side of our qualification to help with working out dimensions and addequate equipment.
there is an oppurtunity to work on a car that is going to be used in a parade. this gives us an oppurtunity to improve and develop our skills as well as show us our creative side. there is also oppurtunities to particpate in physical challeges like the three peaks challenge.
