As an apprentice at KPMG, I spend a lot of time helping the senior members of my team. This could involve helping them with their work or following up queries. As I have learnt more I have been given my own work to be responsible for and will take the ownership of completing this myself and seeking assistance when required. I am often based outside of the office at client sites so this involve a lot of communication with the client in resolving queries and completing work.
I have learnt a lot since joining and I have had many opportunities which have allowed me to develop existing skills. For example, I have seen a great improvement in my communication skills as you are always working with so many different people from various different backgrounds and differing personalities. This gives you chance to engage with different people on a day to day basis. I have also seen vast improvements with my computer based skills especially within excel.
I enjoy my programme a lot. I think that there is a lot of support and resources available throughout the course. Also, as the programme enables you to rotate around the business I think it is great that I get chance to see multiple areas of the business before deciding where I want to stay. At first it all seemed a bit daunting but now I have settled in and got use to how everything works, I enjoy the programmes a lot.
It is a well organised programme in the way that I always know when I have exams, I always know when my study leave is and I always know who to approach when I have a question or need some help. I think due to the rotational aspect of the programme the organisation can be difficult to manage and it can be last minute when you find out where your next rotation is however I always had the information I needed before the day.
There is a lot of support from KPMG in this programme. You are given time off to study for your exams as well as extra study leave time and exams are always seen as a priority. There are a lot of resources available to us and always someone happy to help and resolve any problems.
The trainer provide BPP are great at supporting me with my qualifications. The teaching quality is always of a high standard and the learning material given to us is really useful and easy to follow. We also have quarterly catch up calls with BPP to ensure we are on track and not falling behind with the qualification.
As my first rotations have been in audit, I have found that the content is very easily applicable to my day to day work. It has helped me gain a better understanding of my work and by putting it into practice it has enabled me to understand the theory even more. They qualification and my day to day role go hand in hand.
They're are lots of extra-curricular activities to get involved with. They are various different societies and groups. There are also department socials in which you get the opportunity to socialise with your team outside of work and have a good laugh. They are also charity events which you can get involved with.
