My role was similar to that of an associate in the Audit and Assurance side of PwC. I worked as part of a team on HSBC as the client for PwC. I used to work to complete the overall group objectives that were set a deadline for and used to both help and assist my team to the best of my capacity but also used to complete similar tasks to their own by myself, which was later reviewed by my seniors
Yes, I have learned time-management which was one of my weaknesses in university but has improved significantly over the course of my placement as I had to work to meet the overall deadline and thus had to allocate adequate time to each task. Along with this, i learned to better work as a team to achieve this overall objective.
I enjoyed the programme a lot. I enjoyed the work I was given to do and felt that I was given a lot of responsibilities which went a long way for me as a form of recognition for my work. I also liked my team a lot as they were all friendly and set a good welcoming work environment for me. It exceeded my expectations.
It is well organized as there is a semester of work placement and a semester of university each year, which keeps it more interesting with constant changes, rather than a monotonous degree. The team was also very organized as we had daily meetings in the morning to check our progress and as a way to talk to the whole team and seniors about any doubts or issues each individual faced in the case they were working on.
I received a lot of support from my seniors in PwC as they were very friendly and regularly gave me constructive feedback on my work and how i could improve what i was doing. This was very useful for me. Furthermore, they were very accessible and friendly which supported me as a positive work environment.
We receive support for the placement duration to the full capacity as the managers and team seniors are looking to help and give feedback, and a Career Coach is looking to help my overall work experience and work-life balance as a mentor outside my audit team. I felt i was given a lot of support during my placement.
Although I have not completed my full qualification and is still an ongoing process, I feel that what I am learning for my qualification is helping me better understand the broader and wider reasoning for our audit tests and also the impact of the work we do the full audit of the client.
Yes, there are many social events for the whole PwC office as a whole, and social events for several colleagues who are placed in social groups together. In addition, there are also sporting events like football every week that you could sign up to play representing PwC. There are many such events that I personally took part in.
Yes
I would recommend PwC to a friend as I thoroughly enjoyed my work during my placement and felt the employees at PwC were very welcoming and friendly. I felt the work was enjoyable, and liked my team and felt there was a good work life balance for me, which were boosted by the numerous events organized by PwC
I would advise them to work hard, as hard work in PwC gains good recognition, which will help further motivate you during your work. In addition, I would also advise asking questions when you need to, even if it seems like a silly question. The seniors will always be ready to help you and would rather you ask a silly question than make a silly mistake which has to be corrected later.
