I am currently working as an Application Developer within Treasury Services. In our team we work to maintain and develop the banks High Payment Value systems, through mainframe technoology. We work to periodic releases, in which we implement project work that has been requested internally, or through clients. We actively work by coding, using languages such as NATURAL and COBOL, however it is also in my job responsibility to manage projects, test programs, create supporting documentation, and assist with any production errors or queries.
I have learnt a huge amount in my time at JP Morgan. Through my job role I am currently and continuously learning how to code and test in 2 mainframe languages. As part of the apprenticeship I am studying for my Level 3 Apprenticeship - Investment Operations Certificate (IOC). By being in the workplace I have also picked up a number of skills, e.g. communication, organisation etc.
I am thoroughly enjoying my time on the apprenticeship programme. I have been fortunate enough to be placed in a team and role that I enjoy and can really get involved in. I think the Bournemouth campus is a really great location, everyone is really friendly and willing to give their time to help you.
As an apprentice I was suprised how well we are valued in such a large organisation. The programme is well recognised on site, and I have not had an experience where I have felt unvalued.
I think the scheme is very well structured. The programme is constantly being developed due to regular feedback. We are always aware of what we should be doing and by when.
We have all the help we need provided by our training provider. I could not ask for more from them, and someone is always on hand to help.
I know that if I ever need anything that my employer will be there and willing to help. All the support networks are in place across the whole campus.
My salary meets my costs, and gives my a comfortable life. For an apprentice wage it is at a good standard.
There are always oppurtunities to get involved with things outside of the workplace. There are a wide range of clubs, initiatives and work to be involved in. There are no limitations to these, and you are free to get involved as and when you like.
Yes
The scheme has really helped me to realise what it is like to work in a corperate environment. I have learnt an incredible amount in such a short space of time, and I really like the Bournemouth campus. The oppurtunities are endless, and we get exposure to some incredible oppourtunities.
If you have any interest around Technology, Business or Finance then apply! Roles are competitive, however I think if you put in the effort to do research before interviews and take a general interest in the company then you have every chance of being accepted. The employers are very focused on social skills, so try and build your communication skills and show that you are able to work in a team
