  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is a funeral director. An overview of my role would be I conduct, arrange and organise funerals. That includes burials and cremations, ashes interments and dispersals, care of the deceased, supporting the bereaved, working on an on call basis where we are required to give assistance out of normal working hours.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learned more from my colleagues as the training from Learn Direct/People Plus took so long. Felt I was ahead of the training and it was more of a hindrance. I didn't feel I received much support from the training provider, the assessors provided as much as the assessors could however the structure of the staff was terrible. So bad they couldn't do the job as efficiently and effectively as they should have due to being understaffed and with those off sick not having cover.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I wouldn't say I particularly enjoyed. The assessors are lovely and really helpful however they were overworked with too big a workload. I didn't feel I received much support from the training provider, the assessors provided as much as the assessors could however the structure of the staff was terrible. So bad they couldn't do the job as efficiently and effectively as they should have due to being understaffed and with those off sick not having cover.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • How well organised and/or structured did I find the programme, to be honest I did not find it well organised or structured at all. I didn't feel I received much support from the training provider, the assessors provided as much as the assessors could however the structure of the staff was terrible. So bad they couldn't do the job as efficiently and effectively as they should have due to being understaffed and with those off sick not having cover.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received a reasonable amount of support from my employer. My colleagues were very, very, very helpful and offered a great deal of support. My employer has an agreement to allow twenty five percent of my working week free to complete my qualification however I feel that was unrealistic on occasions.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I didn't really feel it helped at all as it was too far behind. I was progressing much quicker through my own research and through training on the job with my colleagues and manager. If the service was more prompt it may have been more helpful and beneficial to me.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As part of my role I am expected to participate in community or charity events. We liaise with different charities, organisations, health organisations to find out how our roles can be mutually beneficial and how we can do our best to help out community, as individuals and as a partnership.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Co-op to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • I can only speak from a cooperative funeralcare point of view, however I do not have many tips or advice as I did not have a good experience. Staff shortages and sickness in the company hindered my progression severely and negatively affected my colleagues and line manager. Some work was also lost which meant duplicating.
