Every day is completely different at Manchester Airport with something new always going on, where it services, breakdowns or planned maintenance. From clocking in at 7am we go out to work shadowing a fully qualified engineer to complete jobs on our job cards for the day. We follow engineers from AFL, Terminals and baggage systems as these are the areas we could be working in.
New skills which I have developed were mainly learned in college. I learned more about bench fitting and electrical installation and maintenance which was mainly new to me. However a lot of the mechanical maintenance was helping to develop my skills as I knew how to do a lot of the practices in mechanical maintenance.
I really enjoy my apprenticeship as I’m learning lots of new skills which will help me in my job role as well as developing skills in aspects of engineering which I already had. The college course is great and you can always ask for help when it is needed
The program is extremely well organised. We always know what’s going on in terms of apprenticeship, Will college and when in work. I think it is good that the course is well organised as all of our time is spent on learning and developing our skills as a pose to wondering what’s happening next
We receive a lot of support from our employers as they’re always trying to give us feedback and offering additional support such as mentor schemes to give us extra help in working through our company and to ensure we go far in the business. I think this is really good
When it comes to working towards gaining out qualifications out training provider, Trafford College, have been great. They always keep us up to date on which parts need to be completed when and what work we can do in free time to ensure we can achieve the best possible work
All the work that has been completed on our course with our training provider has been a great help in improving our performance in our job role which I think has been reflected when spending time on the job. It has improved my overall skills both in practicality and health and safety while at work.
Due to not being full time at the airport, we are only in one day a week at this time, I have not got involved or checked out the extra curricular activities they have to offer. However, once I am there more frequently I will be sure to check these out
Yes
So far from my experience MAG has been a great company to work for and to complete an apprenticeship with. All the staff are approachable and you are never left in the dark. The management team are informative and are constantly feeding back information to ensure you are up to date with everything going on
Be yourself and don’t worry in the interview situations. When in the team building situations in the interviews ensure that you are heard but not too often. Either take charge with a good idea or ensure that you follow other people’s ideas and work to the best of your ability
