My job role includes the maintenance to vital areas of the airport. This includes the airfield, terminal and the track transit system. We must ensure the safe and efficient running of assets. We do this by completing planned maintenance to assets such as the baggage system, the TTS track and the cars that run on the system and maintenance to the airfield lighting systems.
Working at the airport has developed many key skills. The main one is my fault finding techniques, fault finding is an important skill in engineering and my time here has helped dramatically in that area. Another key skill i have learnt more about is leadership skills as well as being able to work as part of a team.
I very much enjoy my job. There is nothing better than waking up in the morning and looking forward to going to work. With the ever changing dynamic of the airport, you never know what to expect when coming into work, so walking into a different challenge every shift is extremelly enjoyable.
At the start of my apprenticeship, it was not the best structured but as it has gone on and different managers have come in, the apprenticeship scheme has become a lot more structured and organised. Although there is always improvements to be made, the scheme now is pretty well structured
My employer gives good support for me to complete and succeed in my apprenticeship. Whenever i require support or any managerial assistance i believe i always get it in a professional manner from my direct manager, line managers who are on shift on that given day and from my colleagues.
My training provider in the past has been a little difficult to deal with when it comes to my qualifications but we managed to sort most of the issues we faced and the qualifications will be completed on time and to a good standard. so I ca not complain too much about the support i have received from the training provider.
My qualifications have not been tailored to the work we actually do in the job role. The qualifications we have achieved and are currently doing have been tailored more to manufacturing work but we are maintenance engineers so there is very little relevance to what we actually do in the job role.
There is very little extra curriculum activities to be involved in which is a shame. There is nothing really organised for us outside of work unless its voluntary work in the local area. There is no social activities, sports or anything like that to get involved with unfortunately or at least none that i am aware of.
Yes
MAG has so many opportunities for apprentices and is a brilliant environment to work in and be a part of that i would definitely recommend to other people and i already have! With a few minor adjustments it could be an extremely good apprenticeship to complete. Even with that being said i will recommend MAG to anyone.
The main bit of advice i would give to people applying to MAG airports is always be up for a new challenge and approach every situation you face with an open mind due to the ever changing, dynamic environment that we work in, and to enjoy every minute during their time here.
