I am within Corporates International and Complex tax specialising in the energy and natural resources industry. We advise our client on a wide range of topics including the tax aspects of investments, restructures, JV's or the impact of new tax laws on their business.
My tax technical knowledge has improved massively but skills I have developed on outside of this would include my organisation and communication skills as well as my team working ability. This would be in regards to my London office team but also when working with multiple international teams at the same time
I have enjoyed the programme very much, there can be some issues around resourcing as some department require a lot of apprentices and other departments are very technical meaning it is very difficult to get into as an apprentice. Once you are in your desired team the programmed is very enjoyable and you will learn a lot of skills from all departments even if they were not your first choice which has been invaluable to me, highly recommend.
The programme is well organised, changing department can feel last minute however you will always be told prior to the date of change which is sufficient. The programme is well structured around exams and workload allowing you to complete exams in those periods where you have a lighter workload.
I have multiple lines and departments that support me, including my department with a people leader, performance manager and buddy who all are ready to help. There are also individuals and mailing boxes for the apprenticeship team who are able to help with anything I may wish to raise. The support from engagement managers and engagement leaders is very comforting and welcoming.
I have recently changed training provider and both are supportive, there work on a basis that you have to raise any issue or concerns but they will respond and help should you require assistance. There are calls on top of this however they are not often but are helpful.
I feel my qualifications massively help me perform in my role as they are increasing my ability to complete more complex piece of work and assignments.
Being a large company there are a lot of extra-curricular activities to get involved in plus many self development session or volunteering activities to get involved in. As an example of the extra curricular activities I am in the KPMG rugby team.
Yes
KPMG is a great place to grow you career and you will learn some many thing within your department and outside of it. The opportunity to learn about other areas and the different departments you can join to start you career makes it a great place to work.
Be confident and do you research on the firm. Ask yourself if your values align with the firms' and if you are a good fit as an employee. If you believe you are and you know why then this will massively help you on your application.
