On a Day to day basis as a first year apprentice you study 5 days a week at college preparing you for the workplace and studying all relevant aspects of Engineering like Electrical, mechanical and health and safety. Come holidays or half terms you spend the day shadowing experienced technicians in all departments (AGL, TTS, Terminal and core team) everyday is different when working at the airport and there's always something to do.
I have definetly learnt new skills when at college I've expanded my written knowlege and practical covering all aspects of engineering. In the workplace I've learnt a lot about mechanical Engineering when working in the terminal and electrical knowledge when working in TTS. Ive developed heavy maintanance experience and old and new electrical skills.
I am enjoying learning new things everyday at work with respect to engineering. We have a really good group of people in my class and I get on really well with everyone. Working at the airport is always eventful and I enjoy working in a busy and interactive and environment.
The college course I am on needs some fine tuning. I have learnt a lot over the last year but the course needs a bit more structure. when we are working at the airport its always very structured and enjoyable you are given a rota a week before work at the airport and threw out the week you get to experience all departments.
I receive a lot of support from management and technicians in my apprenticeship any problems I have my employers are very helpful and always resolve the problem.
College is always there to answer questions I need relating to course work and practical work.
Currently the practical work we do is very relevant to the workplace environment. The theory is very much health and safety related which also helps when in the work environment.
Yes there is we have golf weekends, paintball sessions, bowling and meals out. All used for team building exercises and treats within departments
Yes
It Is a very interactive and busy environment working at the airport there is always something to do and new things to learn I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys all aspects of engineering.
