  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The KPMG 360 programme allows you to gain Accountancy qualifications whilst experiencing areas within the business. I currently have had one placement in National Markets Audit and now in Public Sector Audit. The majority of placements seem to be within Audit but it is possible to be elsewhere if you show proactivity.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have improved on my communication and in confidence due to the great amount of networking within the business. I have met with Partners, Directors, Managers as well as other apprentices and graduates. I have learnt lots whilst completing my qualification training too. I have also become more organised and proactive.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme and I am hoping to get a placement in another business area outside of Audit as I believe I would enjoy this even more. KPMG have helped with both career and personal development and I couldn't have asked for greater support. I also enjoy the networking with the variety of levels in the business.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think it is structured well. We have good spacing between study and exams and the following modules to give ourselves breaks to relax. There's also the opportunity to fast track allowing you to qualify sooner. We attend catch up calls and meetings with the 360 team regularly too.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We have two managers, one from the 360 apprentice team and the other within the department that you are on placement with. Both of which provide great support with business matters, exam queries and if necessary personal situations. There are various teams to support with mental issues, sickness or other areas which you may have concerns with.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • BPP provide us with the training, either face to face or through online lectures. We receive study material including detailed notes and a question bank with practise exams in. Also, there's a VLE online with videos and other notes to support your learning. There's a forum where you can post questions to tutors who with provide explanations.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The information we learn relates closely to the work carried on day to day tasks in my role. Depending on your department you will use certain skills from the exam modules for example the tax modules only relate to the people with placements in tax. The skills are transferable though e.g. independence, organisation and proactivity.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are many socials that take place e.g. drinks, bowling, go karting etc. Also, there's societies to get involved in such as netball, Islamic etc. Also, there are several networking events that take place e.g. Leaders breakfast - where you can enjoy breakfast with senior members of the firm.

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have developed so much as a person and believe they have offered a lot of help and support with my career development. I have gained invaluable experience, working towards a great qualification and at the same time get paid! I have been able to get hands on experience that you cannot get elsewhere of which is of paramount importance in this industry.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • Research the areas within the business to help you figure out which suit you. Make links with individuals to help arrange your own placements as there can be very few available placements in some areas and they go to those who show a keen interest. Be yourself and enjoy it! Work hard in the business and towards exams.
