  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Deputy Manager of a Crate Wash, where we wash trays/crates for fresh produce such as fruit and Vegetables. I deal with the flow of equipment coming into the Crate Wash and also the equipment going out to suppliers. I have a team of 14 staff on day shift to supervise and the general today to day tasks to fill out such as payroll, K.P.I's etc.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot about myself and the way I manage my team. I was surprised to see that I was already subconsciously implementing the different management styles to my everyday managing. I learnt how to manage my time and adapt my style dependant on the situation giving to me at anyone time.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I'm enjoying it a little more now. However it has been a slow start here at Bolton, as we seem to have started the course at the wrong time. We missing 3/4 month through the Christmas period, and then with a change of assessor, just seems to be lacking enough direction and time give in work to fulfil the courses requirements.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Relating to the last question I feel the start wasn't well timed or put together. Lacked instruction or task allocations to be given to ourselves (direction). If us as students didn't have the Maths and English from passed education, it seemed like we was left behind a little.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Nothing much at all at the beginning. My manager isn't interested or says he don't have the time to do anything regarding the course as his work load to almost unmanageable as it is. Now seven month into it and the realisation of the work involved they are starting to put time aside for us to complete certain things, i.e. Master classes.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Our first trainer didn't seem engaged with us and a lot of our staff dropped out of the course feeling that time given to complete the work and the direction on which the course was going was lacking or non at all. Now on our second trainer we are slowly picking it up now, and although it may take the full allocated time given to complete we may just get there.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think it gives you information to think about and builds up your confidence up to be a more complete or better manager. The managers styles are good to learn and implement at work knowing that it will or should have a positive out come on your staff or yourself.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not that I'm aware of. I think the only actives are charity driven events, which I'm all for and positive about, and will support anyone for a good cause. But as for team events and actives, no I've not heard or seen anything information about it at all.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Its a well paid job, and well structured as a big company. They offer lots of benefits and try to keep all the staff engaged with the company's direction and what they are trying to archive to the customers. Also the new warehouse that we are now in is better than most I think out there.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • Be prepared to be hard working and driven, however the benefits that you will receive as an employee are great. Try your best to push yourself to the next level as there is a lot of opportunities to do so. Smile and be friendly to everyone as this has I belive a positive outcome for all.
