I am currently in my second year of the retail apprenticeship and Learning the roles and responsibilities of a manager, I still perform the role of a store assistant working pallets working in a team taking a turn on tills, however I now have management responsibilities such as running a shift being in charge of the safe and learning step by step how to become a leader in a retail environment
I’ve learned how to operate a till, I’ve developed my people skills and how to work as part of a team. I have also learned effective ways to get a job done right and fast. I’ve learned how to deal with money in a retail environment which can be stressful.
I really enjoy my work environment at the moment and I am really enjoying the apprenticeship as well as a result. At times I am nervous about learning something new but after I’ve been shown and talked through it my confidence grows. I feel like I am learning a lot through this programme and it is definitely worth it.
To be honest it hasn’t been great as I had a trainer who left lifetime and I fell behind on work as a result and he had also lost my work I had done previously however I had been given new trainers who have catapulted me right back to where I should be
The assistant managers in my store are constantly trying to give me responsibilities to Learn the role like putting me in charge while they do the orders or entrusting me with the safe. Teaching me things on the computer and including me in any management situations in the store and it gives me a lot of confidence
Couldn’t be happier with the trainer I have we are getting through the work really fast and have actually found ourselves ahead of time which is really good. Anything I struggle with she is there to help and I get there in the end. She also encourages learning new things in store and that often leads to me being taught something new
It teaches me a lot more about policies and how a manager should be in a store. Also cements the role I have to fill in my head helps me keep on top of things and constantly watching out for things I otherwise might not have been. Keeps a good reminder of what is expected of me
There was a highland event that we could apply to and ALDI would pay us to represent them there however I didn’t apply there is also many other things we can sign up to I just can’t think of the names off the top of my head but they often come around every so often
Yes
Great place to work great people. The work environment is excellent you have to work hard but you feel very rewarded afterwards and Aldi take very good care of their employees I am very happy in my position. In Aldi you feel wanted and valued at any level in the company and Aldi do their best to make that the way it is
Sell yourself don’t be afraid to talk yourself up just be ready to back it up when you get here. Be ready to work hard, that is a big expectation of Aldi shifts can be really hard work but it’s all worth it in the end. The staff you are with are there to help as well once you have been hired very easy to settle in at Aldi
