On a day to day basis my Job will include me turning up to college at 9:30 at our training provider at Harlow college. We start the day with typing up answers and writing up our write ups for jobs we have completed we then have lessons on subjects we are completing.
There have been a lot of skills that i have been able to develop from GCSE level engineering for example my knowledge on mechanical devices, as well as different techniques for manufacturing . Other bits of new knowledge that i have been able to pick up is, knowledge about health and safety in the workplace and knowledge on how to use hand tools appropriately.
I do enjoy the programme i am doing and i am glad i went into engineering with Mag as i have found whilst on site the work to be challenging and have found the technicians have been good at teaching new knowledge as well as this they are good at getting you involved with the work. Whilst at college though i feel there is room to improve on how the day is structured and i feel more practical work should be done.
To begin with the programme started slow and unorganised this was due to lack of staff to begin with as wells organisation changes, following this the programme did pick up again but due to staff problems and what seemed a lack of responsibility by the staff running the programme we was left again with the same problems we had to begin with, but now we have moved to Harlow i have noticed a change in the structure of our day for the better as well as this we have started to have some lessons again for our course.
I find that there has been a lot of support from our employer and that when there is a issue it always gets resolved as soon as it can. I also find that when we are onsite there is a lot of care taken in planning out our jobs and any work the company wants us to do.
Before we found that there was not a lot of support from the training provider at all and we was even forgotten about and put in the wrong classes at some point. But now we have found that the support has been better and as well as this we have more support for out specific training and classes.
I feel that once we have completed our HNC and Level 3 in manufacturing we will have a good qualification that will allow us to move in to various fields of engineering and as well as this will give us the necessary experience to complete our work and develop our engineering skills further.
There are some extra-curricular activities that we can do with our workplace for example there is the opportunity to complete a golfing weekend as well as this we have been on bowling days for team building. We also have the opportunity to attend social events such as end of year partys.
Yes
I think there are a lot of good opportunity at Manchester airports groups to try different jobs not only in engineering but also in security as well as business management and also in airfield operations. Other jobs include things like customer service and cleaning. I also feel working for MAG gives a lot of long term career opportunity
I would tell them to make sure they look around for what they want to do as there is many things you can do in Manchester airport group, as well as this you need to be confident as you will often meet and talk to customers, you should also be keen and hard working
