  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role in R2R includes: - Interface files - GRNI process Managing UKI interface reconciliation daily by reconciliation and flag any issues - Pre-accruals – I need to update x3 with any invoices with a service that lasts over the year. I need to put the start and end date in - Posting journals – at month end we must keep an eye out on service now which is a website where colleagues from around the EU will post a financial incident. This is where I can pick up any journals that need posting on to X3 - Helping with any month end activities - Manual Matching - Pre-payments – I need to update a spreadsheet monthly with the payments that need to be made each month for an invoice - I also have experience with updating the bank reconciliation spreadsheets but we have recently introduced blackline into our department which will now make this process more efficient

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have completed my Level 2 Bookkeeping Transactions and Bookkeeping Controls, I am now working towards my level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting. Sage have something called Sage Learning which is where you can complete small courses to increase your knowledge and skill set. They have a lot of choice of things you can learn.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Sage is a very welcoming place to work, everyone is always happy to help and I am looking forward to developing my skills in this workplace. My team have been very helpful so far and I couldn't of asked for a better team. Since I have done an apprenticeship before I was already familiar with how the programme would be.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We attended college once a week for our qualification then we work 4 days a week. Our work fits in to what we are learning at college and we always have to chance to complete college work during work time. We are able to get in touch with our tutor a few times a week if needed.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive a lot of support from our employer including always having time to complete our qualification at work. I have 1 2 1 meetings with my manager as much as possible to update him on my progress at college including with my portfolio and the work I am doing.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We are only at college once a week but we can email our tutor during days we are not at college but our tutor does not work every day so sometimes this can be difficult. But we get support as much as she can provide us with and we always have our managers and other colleagues.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am only 6 months in to my apprenticeship and I have already learnt a lot that I didn't know before I started. It helps me to be able to talk about the work I am doing as I now understand why I am doing it for. I have already learnt new skills I didn't have before.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At sage we have 5 volunteer days through the Sage foundation. this means we are able to take a day off to go and do different volunteer activities. I have already volunteered at the Cat and Dog shelter and I have helped create a community garden. I still have 3 days left which I will definitely use.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Sage to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it is a friendly and welcoming place to work and everyone is always happy to help. They are so many different apprenticeships you can do so their is something for everyone. I like how we get the chance to volunteer all over the north east using our Sage foundation days.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sage?
  • I was really nervous for my interview before I arrived but the interview stage is not as scary as you think it would be, i actually learnt a lot and it gave you a chance to meet other apprentices as well. The interview day was a half day and it involved a group activity, an actual interview and a presentation. The presentation was similar to the interview and it involved you preparing answers to a few questions you were given which you then answered in front of one person.
