  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a non-trade duty manger at Iceland Wellingborough 0103. I do a lot around the store and it all depends on the staff that are in that day. Sometimes I will be a cashier, putting stock out, all the way up to running the store for a few hours on certain days.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • One of the new skills that I have developed whilst taking part in the Level 2 apprenticeship is approaching new people and getting to know them. I used to be quite shy before signing up but now I have come out of my shell and have developed my social skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love the program. I think it's great. Loads of new people wanting to make something from nothing. The main thing that I love about the program is that I have people around me going through the same thing as me so its good to see other peoples views and opinions and take that on board myself.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured and organised. I am constantly getting work set for me and its very easy to access and see what I need to complete next. The work gets progressively harder which is good because it means that everyone can be at their own level when taking part in this apprenticeship.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager is very supportive with whatever issues I come across, whether it be about the apprenticeship or anything in general, they are always open to what I have to say. I have certain tasks that I have to complete that include my employer and we complete them without fail every time.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support I get from Lifetime is brilliant. Not a bad thing to say about them. They are always wanting to be up to date on what we are doing and show care in it. They try their best to help us when it is needed and I sometimes get texts and emails from them with the next thing to do.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Taking part in the apprenticeship gives me a lot of confidence around the shop as it has made me realize how capable I am to make it all the way to the top at Iceland. There are tasks that link directly the things that I complete in the workplace which I thought I would never be able to do.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At Iceland we are all one family. We all get along and as a result of this it lets us all get together outside of work, for example, we have an 'Area Party' which is where all the stores in our region come and see everyone for an evening and we also have an awards ceremony at the party.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Iceland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Iceland to a friend 100% because I believe that we have some of the best quality products for the best prices. There's not one bad thing I can say about Iceland. I would also recommend our free delivery service as that is a massive part of what we do as a store.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland?
  • The tips I would give would be when you apply at Iceland, be sure to big yourself up on your CV as much as you can to make sure that you stand out compared to others. Be different so that you are recognized and then you might just get the job.
