I am the lead senior on my jobs. I am responsible for ensuring that the team is on site at the client when required. I provide coaching to the junior members of the team and I perform the audit procedures on some of the more challenging accounts in the companies financial statements.
Whilst being part of the school leaver programme have a learnt multiple skills. One of the main things that I have developed over the years of training is good communication skills with both the client and the managers on my jobs. I have also learnt valuable excel skills which help to ensure efficiency of jobs.
I have been on the school leaver programme for 5 years and each year has been different. I have enjoyed learning new things each year and developing my personal skills. I enjoy the day to day role and also meeting new people both within my own company and from those outside.
The programme is structured well in terms of the split between exams and time in the business. I have completed my exams across the 5 years and they have all been appropriately spread to ensure the best possible chances of being able to pass them. In addition we have clear career progression.
We receive a great deal of support from our employer as we are provided with the required days of study for college as well as the day of the exam. We can then also take additional holiday around exams if we feel it is necessary. We have a counsellor aswell who is there to support us
We obtain a lot of support from the training provided. We have college split into 3 parts which allows us to initially learn the content, then apply it and then practice before the exam. There is also tutors available outside of this college time if we need to contact them.
The qualification allows us to understand the basic and complex principles behind what we do and how it should be done. Each exam allows us to build up our knowledge which can be then applied and used when performing my job for example; applying accounting standards to the correct accounts.
There are lots of extra curricular activities which are offered and you can get involved in for example; social activity planning, cricket teams, football teams, diversity groups. There is also the opportunity to start your own activities and get other people involved in something you think could help the office.
Yes
The company is a global firm which allows you to interact with people all over the world. It is diverse and teaches you new things about different cultures. There is a big support network which guides you and there is lots of opportunities to do well and progress your career.
I would say to be yourself. EY doesn't look for everyone to be the same as the best teams are the ones which include different types of people in order to utilise peoples strengths. Prepare for the role you want to apply for but don't try to be something your not
