I am the first person the public meets when they come into my funeral home. I support families that are going through the most difficult time in life. I help guide them through making arrangements for their loved ones, to give them the best send off we possibly can. I arrange and organise the service, I work out and issue invoices.
My computer skills have improved a great amount. Using Software such as guardian and rainbow. My social skills, I am now comfortably able to support and comfort clients through the many stages of grief. I am able to greet people over the telephone in a professional and sensitive manor, even during the clients most difficult times.
I thoroughly enjoy the programme. It has a range of theory and practical assessments. The choice of topics you learn are varied yet interesting. My assessor Zoe is not only enthusiastic, which spurs me on, but she's encouraging, and extremely helpful with insightful information. The first day I met with Zoe, I managed to tick a lot of, which was motivating to continue.
It's well organised. The initial sign up is very insightful and you're given plenty of helpful and useful paper work. It's well explained so you know what your next visit will be working towards. The visits work well, and the assessor will take her time and go through as much as she can in order for you to get a vast amount of work signed off.
We are given a day off for the sign up day, and if our assessor is due in, the line manager will always try to help cover the home whilst you see them. If ever we needed to do some out of work learning, for example shadowing an FSO, they would always try to allow us to do so.
A good amount. She is always sending emails to encourage us if we are behind on something. She is firm but fair which I think is helpful when it comes to spurring us on. If ever we are struggling or need a bit more help on something, She is always quick at replying.
Knowing that I have a recognised qualification behind me not only supports the fact that I have received all the required training to do my job, it helps me work to the best of my abilities knowing that I'm supporting grieving families in the correct way, sharing knowledge I have been taught to assist in giving their loved ones a heart felt send off.
We branch out to the community as much as we are able. We visit care homes, staff often hold bingo afternoons there. We also work along side charities, we donate knitted clothes to the neo natal unit and the homeless. We are always trying to branch out more, and in the future there will be more events.

I recently unexpectedly lost my dad, and I can honestly say with out the support from my colleagues here at Co op, I wouldn't have made it through such a hard time. They were so compassionate, caring, and took such great care of dad. The service was professional and ran smoothly. Although dad was a large man and was infectious, the staff treated him with such respect. I wouldn't have any problem's with Co op looking after any member of my family.
The application process can take a while, and it's a little frustrating waiting for a while, but working for the co op is extremely rewarding. Our reputation is second to none, so working for such a well known company is a reward in itself. They are very good with training.
