At the start of my shift my main role is usuallly to ensure all stock from delivery has been put out and then to check for any gaps offsales and ensure all stock that is available is out on the shop floor. I am also in charge of doing reduce and waste each day. I then have to close the store and cash up at the end of each day and ensure the store is securely closed and ready for next days trade.
Since starting the the level 2 training i have realised that i have learnt many new skills that i would not of previously noticed. A lot of skills are learnt on a day to day basis and the training programs shows this and helps you to develop on these skills.
So far i am enjoying being involved in the program. It has made me realise that i can learn and develop new skills everyday by just doing my job and the program also helps me to develop my skills further and shows what areas i need to focus on to improve which is great.
So far the whole structure of the program has been fantastic. To begin with we were invited to attend an information evening where we learnt what the program would entail. We then met with our trainer so we could be signed up and go through all the details of how to etc. We have regular meetings with our trainer and can contact them whenever needed.
Iceland have been great with supporting me during the program. We are given allocated time to work on our modules. I also receive help and support from other members of staff that are also doing the same program or higher. We are also given time for meetings with our trainer when needed.
Since the start of my program the help and support from my trainer has been fantastic. To start with i was having trouble logging onto actually complete my modules and my trainer sorted this straight away. She has gone through any problems i have had in detail and always made sure I know what i need to get done.
The training program not only helps you develop skills in your job but also further the skills so you are able to do your job to the best of your ability. Not only this but it also helps you understand why we do things the way we do so you can better understand your job role.
As a store we try to arrange social events through out the year so that all members of staff can get to know each other outside of the working environment. As an area we were lucky enough to have a Christmas awards night arranged for us and there will also be a summer event this summer.

Since starting at iceland 2 years ago as just a part time job i have learnt and developed a wide range of new skills and responsibilities and have progressed in my career more than i thought was possible. Iceland offer fantastic benefits for staff ie discount and are always looking for ways to ensure their staff are looked after and appreciated.
If like me you enjoy going to a place of work that is always different and offers the chance to develop your career then iceland is a great place. If you show you can work hard and to the best of your ability then Iceland will notice this and help to develop your skills and progression throughout the company.
