As I am on the 360 programme, I rotate between the different departments so my role varies depending on the department I am working in. In audit for example, my daily tasks when at a client site consist of having meetings with the client in order to obtain the documentation required to complete the audit in progress.
I have definitely learnt new skills as well as enhanced my existing skills within this apprenticeship. For example, I am always working within a team so I've definitely improved upon my teamwork skills as well as my communication skills which are very important within this job as I am constantly communicating in a variety of different ways to a variety of people.
I do really enjoy this programme because the work, although quite challenging at times, really motivates me to push myself and step out of my comfort zone. The teams I have worked with have also been really supportive and willing to help if I ever had a problem or needed assistance with some work.
The programme is fairly well structured but could be more organised in the future, in relation to giving more advance notice for our next placements etc. which would definitely be more useful. The concept of the programme though is really good and it is a really good opportunity to have.
I definitely receive a lot of support from my employer as well as all of my colleagues within the firm. There are multiple outlooks available for extra support which are very well advertised and promoted and I am aware of all the people I would need to talk to if I wanted some more support.
Support is always available from BPP when we need it and this is reiterated in the emails they send leading up to when we are about to sit our exams. They have also made it clear on who need to contact if we ever wanted extra support in relation to our exams and qualifications.
The qualification that I am working towards definitely helps me to perform better in my role at work because I can apply knowledge from what I have learnt whilst studying for my exams in my role at work and vice versa. This has made it easier to understand the knowledge because I am able to apply it.
There are multiple extra-curricular activities to get involved in and there are also a lot of social activities and sports teams, especially during the summer months. There are regular month end drinks as well as meals out and activities with the teams you have been working with and your department.
Yes
Working at KPMG as an apprentice has definitely been really beneficial to me and a really good alternative instead of going to university. This is because I am becoming qualified whilst also working which is a really good experience in getting to understand the industry. I have also met some great people within my time here so I would definitely recommend it.
To those applying to KPMG, I would definitely encourage you to just be yourself. Also, try and get as much work experience as possible beforehand, even just having a part time job whilst at school, because you can use those experiences as examples of how you've developed your skills etc. which will definitely prove useful in the application process.
