Every day I'm responsible for managing various teams on the account I'm on and ensuring the work that has deadlines is being worked to. I also present the work we are doing and progress to the exec clients where I am based as well as manage reports and reviews for the team.
I've learnt so much and it's not even been a year since I've joined. From soft skills such as people management and building client relationships to more technical skills such as IT architecture and programming, plus the experience of living away from home in the centre of a city.
Despite the work being stressful, and time between actual work and my Uni studies can be hard and require me to sacrifice some of my weekends, I love what I'm currently doing from the job itself to the location to the people I work with. I would recommend this programme to anyone!
Very organised. The structure is 20% study and 80% work with a day off a week to do Uni work from home which is all done by e-learning and live lectures. I also go to the uni for 3 x 1week residentials to meet the lecturers and kick off certain modules.
I receive a lot of support from both my employer and university, and they make it very clear that they are always contactable if I need anything. I have had a 2, 4 and 6 month review so far and always keep a good relationship with my various managers and anything I've needed helped with they have always been very helpful.
I get a lot of support from my uni, having 2 sessions throughout the year where my uni rep will come to my work and discuss how I'm getting on with everything and time management - not just uni wise. The lecturers are also very supportive and respond to any questions over email quickly!
The degree is very helpful within my day to day role for the general IT and business skills I use every day. Due to the work I'm currently doing the uni work is not directly related but I'm sure as I progress with both my work and uni that this will change.
There is a lot of Giveback at IBM where you help out at events and conferences outside of work which goes towards points you can earn and promotion, plus is a great opportunity to meet more people. At my work we have a team meal at least once a week and go out for a drink regularly.
Yes
Get to learn loads of new skills and meet like-minded people. You get a sponsored degree so no uni debt and a good starting salary with a huge earning potential. You will also have 4 years of extra experience from those who have gone to uni. It is also a good opportunity to travel.
When applying make sure to be honest and open about yourself and try and show your passion for the company and the area you want to work in. Be confident however don't be cocky and try and stand out from the crowd by doing extra activities outside of just your school and grades such as D of E.
