My role is a software development role involving the development of code for storage virtualisation for datacentres and other clients. On a day to day basis my role involves bringing up severs to functionality in order to be able to test the latest builds of our code and ensure functionality accross the platforms
I have definitely learnt a lot of new skills, I have begun to learn the ins and outs of Java Programming as well as learning my way around UNIX and LINUX, using the command line and other tools to complete my work more efficiently, I have also learnt how not to plug in a FC port
I would say that I definitely enjoy the program. The work is challenging and stretching but is not too difficult. My boss is very keen for me to keep up with my apprenticeship and they are all very supportive within my role, as well as being supportive if I have problems
My program has been fairly well organised overall, hoewver there have been delays in getting the program off of the ground due to some miss communication issues between my training provider and my employer. However once the issues had been resolved everything else went smoothly. The structure seems fairly good although time will tell.
My Employer provides me with a lot of support. They provide me with a dedicated manager who only deals with apprentices on top of my line manager and so can be entirely focussed on getting the work done. They also provide lots of opportunities for learning and iimproving my skills
I have no idea how much support I will recieve form my training provider as I only started two weeks ago with them and my previous learning mentor they provided has just gone off on sabbatical. However they do provide residential training courses which seems to be a fairly novel idea.
I dont particularly know on this one. But as Im in a software development role I feel that it will definitely aid me in completing my day to day tasks faster and more efficiently. I also feel that the knowledge I have been given is defintlyt useful in doing my job
Yes, there are a huge selection of extra-curricular activities available at work, usually posted on The slack channels. There are running groups, there is a gym, board game groups and DND groups. THere are pool groups and training courses, networking events are freequent and well publicised. there is also a football league
Yes
It provides a fun proffessional environment in which to furhter your knowledge of software development. They care about you as a person and they want you to succeed. The colleagues are interesting and the work is varied and different and there's always something going on that will be of interest to you
Do your best and just be you. Skills can be trained into you. They hire you because of personality and character traits rather than what you have already done. They dont want an excellent software dev or sales-person, they want a person who will work well with others and who is wiling to learn
