I assist financial services companies with a range of tax services. This includes tax compliance, advice and other more general assistance. My role involves reviewing and responding to client queries, reviewing tax legislation to arrive at the appropriate treatment, as well as attending client sites to assist their in house tax teams.
I have development a number of new skills throughout my employment term at Deloitte. In particular, I have learned a great deal of tax technical knowledge - which was completely new to me. I have also developed by office soft skills, including business writing and how to run meetings and take notes etc.
I really enjoy my programme with Deloitte. I have found it really interesting to be part of such a big company and begin to understand what makes it successful etc. I have enjoyed the team atmosphere whilst I work here and have found it easy to assimilate into the team as a new joiner.
As Deloitte has considerable experience with taking on large numbers of new joiners in one go, the process of being inducted into the firm has been very smooth. This has been combined with regular training to assist with our continuing professional development and allow us to see a pathway through the firm.
We receive a considerable amount of support from our employer, both from a structural/organisational point of view and from individual colleagues. The programme is well set up and there is well publicised avenues through which we can receive support. Other members of staff are understanding of the potential challenges.
We receive minimal support/contact from our training provider. We have very little contact with the training provider and I am not entirely sure what role they are supposed to be playing in our working towards the apprenticeship. However, I know very little about why we have been made apprenticeships in the first place.
The apprenticeship has absolutely no bearing on my performance or the role I do. Neither me nor my colleagues have any idea as to why we have been made apprentices or why we are being asked to complete this qualification. As far as we are concerned the apprenticeship programme is not for our benefit in the slightest.
Yes there are a number of extra curricular activities to get involved in at work. They are not particularly well publicised, nor do I get the impression a number of them are that well supported by the firm themselves. However in general if you would like to get involved with an activity, there is scope to do this.
Yes
Deloitte is a fantastic place to work, I enjoy my job. It is a great combination of a large reputable employer, which gives great experience at an early stage in our career - combined with great pastoral care and a great atmosphere in my immediate team. I really enjoy working at Deloitte.
I would say to anyone that is applying to Deloitte to say that the most important thing is to come across well and be confident and amiable in the interviews. Do not get bogged down in trying to understand the technical elements of the job - but rather be relaxed and come across well.
