I am the apprentice of Philanthropy & Engagement EMEA Team. My role various quite a lot depending on the day. There is not a normal routine for me as the work is so diverse that one I would be doing all the admin tasks and preparation for a volunteering project and the other day I will be helping out in our external events.
There are so many skills that I developed over the span of 7 months so far but specifically public speaking and believing in myself. Most of the days I am meeting our Bloomberg volunteers to brief them about the volunteering activity they will be participating in, usually this is my first time meeting them and briefing a stranger in detail can be difficult which in this case I had to overcome.
There are no words to explain of how much I love and enjoy my work. Being part of such an amazing team is just incredible and having to meet so many new faces everyday is just phenomenon. I can go on forever but i just absolutely love my job and the team looks after me so much, they always help me develop and challenge myself.
Since joining Bloomberg, my team has evolved massively. Short-term team members were leaving and there was a lot of shuffling of jobs, however I never felt uncertain about anything as everything was clearly mentioned. There are weekly catch ups with various team members that I feed into and we make sure that nobody is giving extensive amount of work at one time. Gradually, juggling the responsibilities, the team has trusted me so much that I now look after 3 of our weekly volunteering projects and I just love it.
I receive quite a lot of help from my team, from analysis of emails to producing spreadsheets- my team has always been the root for me to grow on. having 1:1 catch ups with team members has been really helpful as I can now fully understand how to fully support them the best. Different members in my team task me with different objectives all the time to see what I can handle and then proceeded to trust me with more and more responsibilities.
My training provider QA- was first very difficult to understand. However through help of my training coach, it gradually went better. The education training days they provided were good and I really enjoyed it. The coach who supports me throughout my whole apprenticeship not only helps me to develop my skills but also develop as a person.
Personally, it has helped me a lot. Knowing more about how the financial world works and how to interact with colleagues has been really helpful. Some of the things that we learned during training days was the use of Gantt charts- which we are having a think about to use in our department. Knowing how to identify my stakeholders and how best to communicate with them, again has been really helpful.
There are quite a lot but this is not something that I am interested in. We do have team outings and those are the best. I am not much of a social person which is why I have never thought about participating in the extra-curricular activities at Bloomberg. Would highly recommend for others to do it.
Yes
Because it has changed my life so much and the you always feel welcomed in Bloomberg no matter what. When you step into this building, you step into a different world that is very cooperative and friendly. even if you make a mistake, everyone is there to support you rather than putting you down. It's just incredible!
Be yourself and give 100%. Do not try to compete with the image of previous apprentice' in your role, as each one of you is unique and will bring different things to the team. Have this eager to learn and ask for more work when finishing one project, trust me it will help you a lot. BE ENTHUSIASTIC!
