  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently as a first year apprentice my role is to complete my BTEC and NVQ qualifications, this means that I have to go to college everyday completing coursework and assignments. My coursework ranges from H&S and business management to hydraulic and pneumatic systems. As well as the assignments there is also K Questions that must be completed to go along with the practicals.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have definitely learned new skills when it comes to the practical tasks we have to complete and this is because I have never had to learn them in as much detail previously. As well as this I have developed my skills when it comes to writing reports and having to justify opinions when completing my coursework

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The course I quite enjoyable because there is a constant flow of work and I am constantly having to learn new things. As well as this it enables me to learn about new things which I haven’t had to learn about previously. I also enjoy the program because the difficulty of the work is at a constant pace upwards.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is fairly well structured, overall it is structured well, it is only through the fault of certain college lecturers that some parts of the course can seem unstructured. Besides them the course is laid out extremely well and our progression forwards is always improving and the end goal is very clear. With Siemens doing everything they can to make sure that we are aware.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer gives massive amounts of support with anything that we need, not just relating to the course but also with other more personal support. We are able to concentrate on what we need to knowing that the employer is doing everything they can to make sure that we are comfortable and feeling happy.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification will help me to perform better in my role because they are educating me on everything that I need for me to safely and successfully complete my role. They ensure that we have an understanding of the job that we are completing and that we get through it comfortably rather than by just getting by.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a few ways for us to integrate further by doing extra curricular activities, however these do not come up often and are not aimed towards the people who are as new in the course as I am. In the future I hope to be able to take part in more of these activities as they come up.
