I have had a variety of roles since starting, on multiple projects. My responsibilities are equal to those of non apprentice co-workers. Currently I work in a PMO role coding, analysing and maintaining complex spreadsheets. Day to day this involves talking to people all around across the business and solving problems.
I have been able to develop lots of my skills with lots of support from my manager, I have gained a lot of confidence in presenting and my general communication skills have dramatically improved. I have also learnt new coding languages in accredited courses as well how to properly interact within the business world.
I enjoy the oppurtunities the programme has provided alot, the training is always engaging and I enjoy my role in general. I have also travelled around alot which I was never able to do before. I am given time to complete my apprenticeship alongside working and the chance to get industry knowledge and an accedication at the same time is invaluable.
The standard is easily accessable and the variety of tools used to plan learning and moniter progress are very simple to use. Sometimes the learning is out of date but it is usually quickly replaced with more relevent ones. The final stage has already been explained in detail and my manager is very engaged in helping me stay on track.
I recieve lots of support from the company. I am given time to complete training and apprenticeship work and my co-workers are always willing to give feedback on my performance to help meet my necessery skills. I have meetings with my manager every few weeks to check my progress and raise questions I have.
The company is the training provider so very large ammounts. They have held detailed seminars with the examination authority to ensure we all understood the expectations of our course and what we needed to achieve. The standard was given early allowing us to know transparently what we will be undertaking.
The experience has greatly improved my confidence and communication skills. This has allowed me to interact with co-workers and clients in a much more effective way than I would have been able too before. Additionally, the training courses have allowed me to gain knowledge in key topics within the field meaning I can keep my skills relevent to my career.
Yes, there are a large number of events all over the country both in the form of professional and social events, including a monthly booking of a local bar for the nearby office to socialise out of the work enviroment. There are also events just for apprentices such as our big confernece once a year.
Yes
IBM allows for a variety of job roles and as someone who doesn't know what I want to do with my life, this is very important as I can try a variety of different roles. The other big benifit for me is the fact that you get a qualification out of it and most of your training is recognised throughout the industry and is transferable.
Be yourself and be willing to talk yourself up. Who you are is just as important as what you can do, in some ways more so as many people who apply have the same level of qualification as eachother so what you do to make you stand out is key.
