We started off in a training lab where a friendly team presented to us a power point which looked into each component of a laptop and looked at how they worked with one another. We started taking apart laptops and putting them back together, gaining valuable practice. After a while, we started looking at software issues and how to resolve them. We had lots of practice before starting work on customer units which they have sent in to get repaired. Now, we are in the main labs, working on customer units with apprentices, and fully trained specialists ready to help
I have learnt many valuable skills. I have contacted with customers on a daily basis to help support them in their repairs, and any questions they may have. I have worked with other departments efficiently to help create an easy working environment. This could be with the spares team, who supply spare parts, or to the CLR team who repair components if we need them. This has built my confidence to speak to other people who i don't know, in a confident manner. I have worked in teams successfully to get the job done, to the best standard possible.
Personally, i really enjoyed this placement. The people are friendly and funny, welcoming and hardworking, creating a very enjoyable environment. From inside the Training Lab, to the Real Lab, from the Canteen to Security, a great work environment is here making the workplace a lot more of an enjoyable place to be. I will be applying for an apprenticeship after this placement is up, as i really enjoy it.
The start of the work experience was well organised. We knew when we had to be in , what to do, what not to do, and learnt everything in order that we should. We got our uniforms after a week or two of starting, but got our boots the first day as they were essential. When we were going into the lab for the first time, it was a little less organised as there weren't machines at every bench, meaning some had to share. We change seats every week, but that is only because of the apprenticeships schedule, meaning we can't do much about that. Over than that, it has been easy to get into.
As soon as we walked into the door, we were made clear of the companies standards. We were told their promises, motto's and more which proves why this company is to the standard that it is. I learnt lots about what its like to work here, as mentioned in the last question, and i will be hopeful to work here more in the future.
A Lot! Before this started, i only knew i had an interest in technology. I've never known what i wanted to do and i was unsure about what i actually wanted to do as a career choice. Now, i've decided that this is the career that i would like to get into.
Yes. At the repair Centre, we were paid £7.25 per hour and worked 15 hours a week ( Thursdays and Fridays) this was because we were on a CPS scheme (Works with college days) Meaning that the rest of week we are at college completing an extended diploma and getting a qualification. We also get reimbursed our travel money back as well, which is a bonus!
Yes, Dixons Carphone uses Workplace (Facebook for work) and the entire workplace is on this. This is great for us as the CEO also uses this meaning we can stay up to date with everything that is happening in the business. They have many groups which members have set up which allow us to connect our interests with other people.
Yes
Great working environment. Everyone is friendly, it is a very rewarding business to work for and offer the employee many benefits. It is a very insightful business and you will always learn on the job, especially with how fast technology is changing in front of us every day. You get to work with the newest technology as well if you are working on them.
Enjoy! You will be set targets, which motivate you to get the work done faster! You will start slow, as you learn the basics but its a very rewarding job. You will have a benchtest on simple work (dependent on area. As i work with laptops, i had to unscrew open and put back together a simple laptop.) In no time, you will be working quickly and efficiently helping the customers who send their units in! I recommend!
