on a daily basis i will be dealing with costs in relation to a construction project. this includes cost to completes, applications for payment and forecasting. i handle important information on a day to day basis through sending subcontract enquires and formatting information that has to be shared with the client.
since i have been a part of JN Bentley i have enhanced many of my skills such as commercial management and communication. My confidence has significantly grown since i have joined JN Bentley as I'm communicating with new people on a daily basis face to face and online. My commercial skills have improved through dealing with project cost and expenditure on a monthly basis.
the enjoyment i receive from this programme is significant. there is a great balance with work and part time learning in college. if there are issues i am having educational wise i can bring it light in work and discuss it with my mentor who will help me understand the topic in more depth.
the structure of the programme being 4 days in work 1 day in college is good as the one day in college allows me to have a break from the everyday work activities. it provides a good break whilst i still gain valuable knowledge from experienced tutors in Cardiff and vale college.
I receive a significant amount of support from everybody in JN Bentley be it work related or college based. the financial support all apprentices receive from JN Bentley is great as they will fund all transport, courses and stationary needed to take in as much information possible when in college or at work.
The tutors at Cardiff and vale college are always available via email all week no matter the issue. they will always provide a good standard of feedback for submitted assignments if they're good or bad. If a subject is too challenging they always have an open door for us to ask for further help. in our 6 week review we can bring anything that we think needs addressing.
from studying with this qualification it allows me to gain a wider understanding of the overall construction industry from the commercial side to the construction side. the research i must carry out to answer my assignments gives me the opportunity to discover new meanings or different methods for certain subjects or activities within work.
at JN Bentley there is a great sports and social team that are constantly organising events for employees to go to. these events can be drop in talk sessions or nights out with project teams or the whole company at Christmas. there is also a sports day at the head office where all employees can take part in team building events.
Yes
i would recommend JN Bentley to a friend due to the amount of support they provide you with from the start. the time invested into all apprentices is great and you don't feel rushed. everyone offers you help if its needed from the second you get there. the line managers in each sector of the business are approachable and there's no need to feel intimidated.
being honest with your application and interview. there are so many different people within the company everyone gets along no matter where you're from or what you do. you'll gain more respect being honest with others about your construction knowledge and willing to learn the basics rather than pretending to know it all to gain the job.
