At JNBentley I work as a site engineer. In my role I survey buildings (As built), Set structures, pipe lines and other general works within the water industry. On site with use of mathematics and past experience, I calculate best solutions to deliver work with use of programs such as CAD.
Whilst on my apprenticeship with JNBentley I have learnt a variety of new skills. Working here has brought my confidence out. I have improved my applied maths skills and on the spot thinking for problems on site. I have learnt new skills with using a variety of equipment such as a dumpy level, total station and dual grade lasers, to set out levels, survey and stake out points.
I've really enjoyed my program at Bentleys. Throughout my apprenticeship I have been able to learn lots from a variety of sites, from reservoirs to treatment works. This has been really nice to see a variety of works. It has also been highly fulfilling to see an idea from paper been done start to finish.
I believe the programme has very good and well structured. I started with having a week induction to the company seeing an over view of what I will be doing and how the company works. Throughout, I have been put onto a large amount of traing to help with my own personal development as well as traing required for sites, such as SSSTS, first aid, settling & levelling etc.
I have received loads of support whilst on my apprenticeship. I had been given a mentor to go from site to site with, who has always been happy to help, listen and answer all my questions. Even when been busy my mentor on site has been happy to give me a helping hand with and problems.
The tutor I had for training towards the qualification was very helpful and knowledgeable on the subject. When work has been done the tutor gave good feed back on what was done well and what corrections should be done. He gave guiding pointers to help correct work. The tutor was easily attainable and happy to help out of college too.
I believe the qualification has helped well with my role. It has given me a big understanding of what processes are done in the construction from design to construction. I do believe some of the practical bits of the course should have been done earlier as these were most vital to my role.
On sites you may have a get together in the evening for food or drinks. At Bentleys we have summer and Christmas meals/party's with all the employees from the region . However no sports events/teams are set up or these are not advertised to aware people that they are happening or not.
Yes
I would definitely recommend working at JN Bentley to a friend. There is an amazing working environment where everyone one is friendly and helpful. This means you can have a good time whilst working on site making the days go quick and have a good time. The company is highly invested in your safety and as everyone is keen with this you feel very looked after.
If people were applying for JN Bentley I would definitely say go for it. There is such a wide array of works happen giving you different challenges all the time. The company is invested in helping you progress as a person as well as in your work giving you achievable goals for progression.
