  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed lot's of new skills. Coming straight from sixth form to joining a large corporation requires you develop inter personal skills quickly. It is also important to develop time management, prioritization; and customer service is paramount. Being able to discuss various banking products is also a skill, especially when coming from a background of no finance related qualifications.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my program. I was really split between going to University, and trying to get on an Apprenticeship scheme- and I have no regrets about joining Barclays. I am offered lot's of opportunities to progress, and am fully supported in my studies. The LIBF provide an amazing academic course also.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well structured and organised. I am given a study day a week to look at my degree qualification (as well as fitting an hour after work). I have a representative from Knowledge Bank who is ready to support me with anything I need. The LIBF's program offers a week by week study guide, so I can stay on-top of my studies.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive plenty of support from my Employer. I am actively encouraged to take my study day every week, and the wealth of knowledge in my department means I can get real world examples of what I am studying. I am also encouraged to switch off my work emails come 5pm, so I can focus on fitting in some study time after work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive lot's of support from the London Institute of Banking and Finance. My lecturer is always one phone call/ email away when I get stuck on a topic. Alongside our workshop week which happens at the start of every module, we also get support from monthly webinars to revise and ask questions.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe the main benefit of my Apprenticeship is how inter- related my degree course is, to my working environment. I know that the degree work I complete will directly boost my ability in my role (currently and in the future); which really motivates me to study for my degree.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of external activities/ events to get involved in at Barclays. There are plenty of sports teams, and various societies. I particularly have enjoyed the Citizenship that is encouraged at Barclays. I have so far completed a charity sky dive, and am also volunteering at a Childrens Hospice during the Summer.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Barclays because it has a very encouraging working environment, Being an 18 year old, joining a large corporation was quite daunting. But from day 1 I have always felt welcome to ask questions, and have always been encouraged in my studies. Every team I have had involvement with have always been positive.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • I would advise making sure you have read into the Apprenticeship program you have applied for, as Barclays offers a handfull of schemes. Being able to discuss roughly what the program can offer, and how your past experiences mean you have some experience already- will help you to stand out come assessment day.
