My role involves looking after a portfolio of customers and dealing with their banking needs. The role invlolves helping with mortgages, unsecured lending, savings and investments. I work in a small team and we work closely together to acheive our aspirations and help manage our own development. We work collaboratively with other areas of the bank
The apprenticeship has given me opportunity to develop my previous leadership skills and provide insight into how to develop these skills moving forward. The apprenticeship has broadened my wider knowledge especially of other areas of the bank. The skills I have learnt I will be able to use going forward into future roles
The programme is time consuming as it is a full time work based degree. This means that it is hard to say I enjoy the programme however it is beneficial and the time it will have taken to complete will be worth it in the long run. My answer may be different if i were to look back retrospectivley.
Anglia Ruskin are very organised and our lectures are well run. The programme is conducted off site and I cannot fault Anglia Ruskin for the time and effort they put in to the apprenticeship. Barclays apprenticehsip team are less organised. The study blocks are planned well in advance to allow for forward planning
The support from Barclays apprenticeship team in the past has not always been positive. My line manager has always supported me and encouraged me with my assignments and regularly checks in with me. However, communication between the apprenticeship team and line managers is somewhat lacking. They appear to be trying to resolve this issue.
The support from Anglia Ruskin is faultless. My tutors always reply promptly to emails and are also giving constructive feedback. Considering this is conducted offsite the support has been outstanding. Alongside tutors we have personal tutors and dissertation supervisers. Couldn't ask for more support and highly recommend Anglia Ruskin as a university.
The qualification will be more beneficial for future roles than my current role however it does give opportunities to reflect on behaviours and develop personal skills. The qualification will be useful for future job interviews and as a way of standing out from other candidates as well as raising my job profile
There are no extra-curricular activites. We are encouraged to go to internal networking events and as part of my role we host events such as wine tasting and golf with our clients. As a team we socialise, for example we go for lunch together on pay day to boost team morale
Yes
The pay and benefits are satisfactory and there are opportunities to develop if you have the right mindset and skills to do so. Barclays may not be suitable however to everyone as it is industry spefic to banking. In the right role the work is varied and interesting providing flexibility if needed.
Be open to the fact that to start with the role can be daunting and seem impossible, it gets easier. Do not pass up any opportunity that you are offered and be open to new ideas and adventures. The study opportunities are great and the support is good but you will only get out of it what you put in.
