My BAU role is on the direct debit support team. What I do is assist with clients who wish to collect direct debits from payers. This is done through the BACS scheme which means we do have to deal with 3rd party companies on a regular basis. On a daily basis I take inbound calls a deal with a number of complex procedures.
Yes, since the programme began I have learnt a number of skills which are not just useful within Barclays, but in any other business. from presentation skills to time management. I now feel well organised and have gained a lot of experience within banking. Especially because of the role rotations.
I really enjoy my BAU role. However I found the apprenticeship/exam work very unorganised. Revision sessions are few and far between, it took an age in order to obtain are text books and it also took a long time just to get signed up onto the programme(2-3 months). So my actual role on a day to day basis is going great, just a few set backs on the apprenticeship side of things.
Like I mentioned before, not very well at all. 7-8 months into the programme we were told that we were signed onto the wrong programme(level 2 rather than a level 3) which had some implications on the some of the work we had already completed. This again was quite frustrating.
I do believe we are very well supported. We have the correct recourses in order to do our roles and we do go through quite extensive training before we are ready to service clients. We have regular meetings with our leaders that go through our progress and what we can do better. As an employer, Barclays is very inclusive.
Currently, we do get some support. However I do feel as though the number of apprentices to the numbers of trainers is cutting it fine. Another trainer would definitely help prevent any set backs along the way in my opinion. However, we do always have some to approach regarding the apprenticeship, its more a lack of revision sessions.
The qualification is very appropriate for usual role. When revising for my exam, I can directly link topics to my day to day role. Which in turn makes revision that little bit easier when trying to understand a concept. The qualification I feel will certainly have a positive impact on my role within business banking.
Yes at Barclays their are always events happening within hours or even out of work. I myself have taken part in a big charity football match which happened to raise a lot of money. These events come up all the time and the opportunities are very extensive. Lunch time fitness/yoga sessions take place every week.
Yes
I would recommend Barclays to a friend because I do feel you are very appreciated, not matter what role you do within the bank. The respect between colleagues is great and the business do like to make it a fun and inclusive place to work. I could not recommend it highly enough.
Reach out from your comfort zone and get involved with things you would not usually put yourself forward for. building knowledge and experience is priceless within banking. The opportunities are also endless, all over the country and even overseas. I would also say just to push yourself on a daily basis.
