  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am counterparty Credit Risk in my second year rotation. I am in charge of several weekly reports and ad-hoc market info for senior managers. I also help colleagues with work when needed. I am also on the rota to risk trades that come in on our team inbox. I also do apprenticeship work monthly,

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many skills, those being transferrable skills, such as soft skills like; time management, prioritization, how to condone myself in the workplace and many more. I have also learnt a lot about risk in general from working in Operational risk to working in Credit/Market Risk. I still have a lot of room to learn.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme in itself could be better run as me and my fellow apprenticeships have all found it to be difficult when rotating and lack of communication from the early careers team. There is a lot of room for improvement on this front. Although I do believe it gives us a great opportunity to launch a successful career.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme structure and organization is very poor. I was expecting when coming to Barclays, a prestigious bank that everything would be inline and sorted, This has been far from true with lots of changes in personnel, lack of communication and all round poor performance, the help we have receive ahs been very poor.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The amount I receive from my employer can differ. If I am referencing my own team and workplace then it is fantastic. Although if I am referencing the apprenticeship side then it has been very poor will little next to no support from Barclays early career team. Overall it has not been satisfactory.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support from my training provider has been overall satisfactory I do not feel like they have gone the extra mile for me at times but the support I have got has been good enough. Although there has been support at times which I have been very happy with this year.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It has helped me to understand risk at a higher level and has helped me in my job also. I have also been able to use the information I have gained in my qualification and applied it into my current role in counter party credit risk. Overall this has been good.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Barclays is a great place to work and allows you to not only expand your career but as a person also. I have definitely became a better all round individual due to my exposure to different types of cultures at Barclays. Which has been a great life experience for me.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • My first tip would be to just be yourself as Barclays accepts everyone at face value and allows you to flourish as a persona and does not hold you back. The culture at Barclays is also great and allows for a great work environment, something I enjoy very much so.
