My role is primarily data analysis, this involves scheduled BAU analysis tasks looking a performance of external debt collections agencies aswell as debt purchase companies. Analysis will be completed using a variety of software including SAS EG/SQL. Another aspect of my role is the relationship management of the debt purchasers.
During my apprenticeship i have learnt many new skills while also developing existing skills. New skills include team role analysis, through Belbin's theory, which has been useful in developing my own role aswell as highlighting the skills of others. Existing skills which have been enhanced include stakeholder analysis, using stekholder mapping.
I enjoy many aspects of the programme, the study breaks allow me time away from work to concentrate fully on the apprenticeship. It has allowed me to form bonds with colleagues from other areas of the bank and develop my network of internal SMEs. this has been pivotal to some recent projects i have been involved in and i have also received feedback thanking me for my knowledge which has helped others.
This programme is exceptionally structured, each unit/assignment/study block is booked in advance so all dates are well known from the beginning of the programme. There are various tutors which can be reached whenever support is required. There was an in depth induction which took place, which was summarised within the first few weeks of beginning the programme to confirm understanding.
My employer has been very supporting, any additional time which has been required has been granted, however i have heard from fellow colleagues that other areas within my organisation have had had as much support, i therefore feel this is something which my employer as a whole could improve on. There are many free online resources which have been useful in numerous assignments,
Tutor support is there when needed, however i feel that this could be offered more frequently, there have been colleagues who have wanted support who have not wanted to ask for support due to some tutors not being forthcoming with said support. I feel i have been supported by the few tutors i have had, especially when it comes to assignment feedback.
As mentioned previously i have applied many different theories which i have learnt, especially Belbin team roles and stakeholder analysis. I feel the programme has provided me with multiple resources to develop myself and become a better leader. The programme has also given me the confidence to progress my search for a more senior position within my organisation.
Extra-curricular activities are more sparse within my workplace, than other areas of the organisation. In general my organisation do offer a fair range of activities if you are prepared to look for them on the right online sources, some travel maybe needed as some offices appear to be more involved in their offerings of these activities. I feel these activities could be advertised more or even offered in more locations.
Yes
The overall package which my employer is very good, compared to some other similar sized organisations. The package depends on length of service and also when en employee joined the bank. This includes, Pension, Bonus, Medical, Bike for work, flex holidays. Package can also, as expected depend on level of seniority, although the starting package for any staff member is excellent.
Do your research, make sure you read about the Barclays history and their values. The values are pivotal within any area of the organisation and will be tested within any interview. They need to be instilled into any work which is completed and failure to display the values would not make you a good candidate for the organisation.
